The GSEI (Gruppo scacchi e informatica) has a rules http://www.g-sei.org/il-nostro-regolamento/
If an Italian chess engine is accused of not being original, will be examined by our technical consultant and judged by all members.
Those who do not accept the rules will be placed in the 'free' category http://www.g-sei.org/motivi-per-lappart ... oria-free/
The chess engines derivatives are placed in the free category.
Black Mamba has not accepted the rules and was placed in the free group.
Vajolet was judged not original (11 votes to 0) and placed in the free group http://www.g-sei.org/sondaggi/
Being part of the group 'free' is not a punishment. People in our 'free' category are knowledgeable and helpful. These people have chosen another road; just no problem, no hard feelings.
In tournaments IGT (International Gsei Tournament) are only accepted programs in the category 'original'.
Well in my IGWT (International Gsei Web Tournament) I accept only original Italian programs, Then Black Mamba and Vajolet can not participate.
Some guest engines are not created from scratch. But this engines have been recognized by the community as original programs because they have greatly improved the base program (more than 400 elo points).
I do not have the authority or expertise to say whether a guest program is original or not. I try to follow the community (computer chess forums and ICGA) but it is not simple.

I promised myself to not question about the inclusion in the free group, but I think this topic need some explanation to clarify it.
Vajolet code is opensource, it contains magics from the defunct winglet project and inside the code you can found lots of reference to stockfish code/idea
Vajolet partecipate to first edition of igwt, I don't remember whether I asked to partecipate or not.
some time ago I was contacted by g-sei admin, Luca, who asked me about Vajolet originality and I more or less told him what you already have read.
g-sei group voted against Vajolet originality and Vajolet was inserted in the free group.
being asked to modify the code to be included in the original group I refused.
that said Vajolet can't partecipate to IGWTtoday but me and g-sei group are in good relations.

Currently the initial pairings are made with the separate results of group A and guests group.
BTW I'd like to see more balanced and hard-fought matches. So the next edition I will change something about the pairings.
Probably the best thing to do is a unique group of 32 participants (8 best Italian engines + n guest engines + 24 - n engines chosen by me).
Now I'm not sure ... I'll think about.
