Update 4

WSET official match is over!

This time the both top participants could not beat each other!
And both games are ended in Draw!

So...my congratulations to Komodo and Stockfish teams !

And I am very happy that we have two top engines, which are in my eyes as real Titans !

About the current two played games,
There are many stars...but I think the current played games belong to the brightest ones!

Note: Soon we (with Prof. Tom Casanovas) plan to start another duel:
Komodo 8 vs Stockfish MZ at 150 min +30 sec
We hope to run at least 20 games or maybe more...
And then let's see what will be the performance of the both Titans ?!

Thanks a lot for your interest!

Best regards,
Sedat

One thing more,

I called it Update 4
Because this thread is planning to be resumed...
Of course updates will appear during our new duel (150 min + 30 sec per side)

In other words,
More updates coming soon!

Note also that you can still continue voting...because overall results are still not ended ...
EDIT: Instead of Both games will be ended as DRAW
You can see it as:
The overall results will be EQUAL

And I hope to see more votes... :)

In shortly,
After our duel (150 min + 30 sec per side) will be clear WSET Champion !

Please stay in touch!

Note that we know nothing about the stockfish version for this tournament.

It may be 10 elo stronger or 100 elo weaker than the developement version that it is possible to download.

I can add that
I also voted already draw based on 2 games.
I do not think that I can change it and I do not think that changing the question after people already voted on a different question is fair.

A good point

So it is a good idea to open a new thread with a new poll...

And I think the name of the next thread sounds good:
WSET (World Strongest Engine Tournament) is resumed!

BTW,
We can test two different Stockfish versions

For example, Tom is testing Stockfish MZ v1.0 (20 games)
And I can test another new different Stockfish compile (20 games)

Any suggestions about which Stockfish to be used?

So in the end....we will have 40 games at 150m+30s per side
Then I think will be more clear who will be the WSET Champion

Even we will have possibility,
To check which Stockfish is doing better against Komodo 8 (under these slow conditions ;) )

Just I'd like to mention,

During my book optimizations, I noticed that:
Stockfish 110714 x64 performed approx 20 Elo stronger than Stockfish 210614 x64

Code: Select all

Program Elo + - Games Score Av.Op. Draws

  1 Stockfish 110714 x64 : 3431 12 12 1138 55.8 % 3390 63.7 %
  2 Stockfish 210614 x64 : 3413 12 12 1139 52.5 % 3396 64.4 %
  3 Houdini 4 x64 : 3379 14 14 1138 46.0 % 3407 54.7 %

Or it is better to use the latest version by Marco Costalba ?!

Note also that yesterday during our private mail conversations,
Tom Casanovas told me that he will start his duel (K8 vs SF MZ) very soon
So since today...we had no any conversations...

That's why instead of waiting....
I think to start my testing too, but this time I plan to use the latest Stockfish:

Author: Marco Costalba
Date: Thu Sep 4 20:19:03 2014 +0100
Timestamp: 1409858343

And in the end...
I think we will have possibility to see who is the real WSET Champion

Yes just choose the latest, that was what I was doing for my 8CPU matches.

Yes...it will take some time, but I think in 1 hour the event will be started

Again I will use my both tournament PCs....and probably in 3-4 days the final results will published
