Re: FCT1: Tactic fault by K8 ...
Hi there,
K8 is one of my personal TOP3 favorits.
I like K8 so much.
But here vs. Critter 0.90 SSE4 x64, few moves after the opening a bigger fault. Not analysed in detail but 11. Re8 can't be good I think!
Have a look in the game ...

The Critter 'downgrade' is also an interesting idea. Critter v0.90 is regarded as the 'last' original version, according to many people.
Speaking of interesting engines that are no longer being developed, Thinker comes to mind. Do you have any plans to include it? Thinker really plays its unique brand of chess, and would be great to have it along the other great engines in your list.
Kind regards.

Re: FCT1: Critter 0.90 SSE4 x64 is still running!
Hi Carl,
Thinker is to old.
Have so many games in my SWCR1 database from this engine. Elo should be around 2710 - 2725. 3 Wildcards for older engines (Critter, Shredder and Spark) is enough ... the newer engines are interesting.
After Critter two events for me with ICE2 and Rodent.

Hope that a newer Hannibal version will be available or the SmarThink programmer found the bug engine have in endgames with tablebases and a newer version will be available.
Allways I have enough to do in testing
ExChess and Scorpio should be test ...
Do you know BugChess?
The programmer must be also a Talent, sure here!
Very nice development but I believe stopped so far?
For three years I am very sure that BugChess will be a TOP-10 engine fast.
Best
Frank

Bugchess and Frenzee were nice engines, too -- a real shame that development stopped years ago.

Looking forward to a new Hannibal myself. Along with Chiron, they are the best combination of both originality AND strength among the 2nd tier engines. Sadly, the public at large hardly knows anything about engines 'weaker' than Rybka, yet these two are still stronger than all humans.
I really like using Hannibal for analysis in the post-opening phase of the game, as it often provides useful "sub-optimal" speculative ideas that can work well against human opponents in over-the-board tournaments.
Cheers,
CL

Hi Carl,
I like the style of Chiron more, but both engines are really great. Hannibal is very strong in endgames.
Yes, we lost a lot of strong amateurs, means it seems that many of programmers lost interest. I know from different that he don't like all the discussion to clones / dervative engines.
Not sure, can I be happy with all the strong and free sources or not. You know different experts like it to used PD sources, closed the sources and try it commercial.
That are the bad points in computer chess and many of good known users supported the idea.
