I was more surprised that Vajolet had such a disappointing tournament.

Me too. If you were to ask me before the tournament who was the favorites to win it I would have picked Discocheck, Vajolet and SmarThink (with iCE and Fizbo as dark horses). So it is surprising to see two of them perform so poorly. On the other hand I was happy to see Nirvana get off to such a great start but its too bad it couldn't keep up during the last 8 rounds

Maybe DiscoCheck lost its mojo. Could well be that v5.2.1 is worse than v5.2. It was very slightly better in my testing, but that was based on very fast tc: 15k games in 6"+0.05" vs. DC 5.2 score=52.0%).

Anyway, DiscoCheck is discontinued (and has been for a while). Will be interesting to see it go down Graham's tournament. It was at the bottom of D1. Now half-way up D2. In a year's time probably end of D3... If you don't progress, you regress :P
Theory and practice sometimes clash. And when that happens, theory loses. Every single time.

it looks like that vajolet's opponents are very strong :)
I think that te strenght of these engine is so close that with so few games everything could happen. let's see whether vajolet could resist 3rd division or not :)

Yes - you're right. In tournaments, there are often engines that perform better or worse than expected.
