Re: Sting SF 4.8.4 correction

Like the Sting concept and the aggressiveness of the Sting engine but my tests show very little difference between Sting 1.0 to Sting SF PV and Sting 4.6 or Sting 4.7 with not much luck with Sting 4.4 or 4.5 at all...dunno..
reminds me a bit of the situation Deep Saros creator found himself in after a time.... it happens...... 8-)

I prepared a list of endgame positions. Many of them Sting is able to solve very easly. Some need a strong machine, and some (a few) Sting SF 4.8.4 can't still solve.
If you want to help me, each information about these or other endgame positions difficult for Sting, are welcome.

Hi Marek
your engine is really astonishing. It can find many combinations that other engines are not able to find.
Here in this link we discuss about your engine.
http://rybkaforum.net/cgi-bin/rybkaforu ... ?tid=29842

Perhaps it is not able yet to find this kind of fortress position.

I will give you other position later.

Hi Nicolas,

I am happy that you want to help me. .
I lost many time to find some bug in the code of parent Stockfish 2.1.1 .
I don't know what it (correction) changes for such tough positions, but Sting now seems to be a bit stronger. I test it (ELO).

[d]8/8/8/1k3p2/p1p1pPp1/PpPpP1Pp/1P1P3P/QNK2NRR w - - bm Kd1;
This correction will need a next version e.g. 4.8.5. I will try to add a new original idea to make search a bit faster too.

Maybe the above posiitions the nest version of Sting will solve, but they are not that important for me. They are a bit artifical maybe good for an A.I.

There is one other serious problem before my project and I must drink many beers to solve it..

best
Marek

Hi Marek, I understand this is close position but what it is wonderfull in your engine is this possiblity to find as other engines are not able to do.

Here also any engine is not able to find white move to win.

Thanks Nicolas, the bug in Stockfish 2.1.1 was very serious for my project and now Sting seems to work much more stable. Wait for the next version of Sting, and me for your tough positions. :)
