Can anyone confirm if this was Shredder 12.0 or a new and improved version?

As Stefan was operating his own program I would say it was a new version of shredder, and as far as I know there will be a new version of shredder coming soon that has this Leiden engine.

Just a matter of time until Stefan is home, has updated the website and finished the product for download etc.

The version of Shredder which played is a complete rewrite. Stefan only started the rewrite at the beginning of the year. It's a bitboards engine, as opposed to the letterbox structure used in previous versions. Stefan had also implemented a novel multi threading algorithm which seems to scale extremely well.

He said he's aiming to have it released before the end of the year.

I think it's got a good chance of eventually competing for the #1 position.

I assume this is referring to the contests at this site:
http://www.wfcc.ch/

In any case, is there any way to collect the problem sets (specifically A-Twomovers, B-Threemovers, C-Moremovers, and D-Endgame studies) from all of the contests over the years?

Anil: I don't know if the particular version of Shredder that people here are discussing is
available just yet but this is the web site you might try to
enquire about it.

It would be interesting if somebody did a similarity test in exactly same 7 games of WCSC between Shreder and newest development SF, or SF6...

I don't think one game is enough to determine similarity.

You're hinting that the new Shredder could be a SF or Ippolito clone. Of course this is possible. I'd be shocked if it really were the case. Stephan is still working full-time on various chess projects. If he simply pushed out a clone he'd lose so much credibility in the community that I believe his livelihood would be in danger. In the fullness of time we'll be able to do a full similarity check.
