"Only 64 Bits"

Post by fern »

I am somewhat toasted reading and hearing that "only 64 bits" phrase. Yes, I know; I am an old fart incapable of having the stamina of younger people always ready to jump to the wagon of modernity, progress, novelty et all.
Perhaps we are obsolete or perhaps wise enough to know how sterile is the run to the very last thing and how well you can live with older things...if not for that "only 64 bits".
In other words, I want a Naum 4.6 running in 32 bits.....

I have not got any 64-bit OS so I must stick with w32 engines... I understand you.

Regarding Naum 4.6, Alex Naumov compiled 32-bit versions and Graham announced them in this forum:

More compiles

Direct download link:

naum46.rar (1664 KB)

I downloaded it (Slow Download blue button) and it works in console mode under Windows XP. I hope it also works in Windows 10. Enjoy it!

Any reason why you haven't upgraded to 64-bit yet? :)

Even computers from 5 years ago are 64-bit, and are many times faster than any 32-bit CPU. They are almost given away for free nowadays.

I sold my last computer (Intel Nehalem, 64-bit) a while ago, for about $100/€90/£65. It's many times faster than any 32-bit CPU out there.

The reason is I do not upgrade to nothing. My car is 15 years old, my wife 59.....
In fact I purchase last model comps for everybody in my family and I ask his or her old comps to fix them and make use of them.
I am like those guys that in History Channlel that fix and revamp old cars etc...

In that case, if they hold on to their computers for about 10 years, you'll be getting a 64-bit machine very soon!

Mr Lai
This argument is made often by developers of "newer chess engines"
"why don't you just "upgrade to 64 bit"? lmao.....may we remind you that most of the engines ever made (lets say 95% with the exception of chess genius and Fritz 4 gui 16 bit ) were made in 32bit! All of the most famous chess engines in the history of chess engine development and testing are in 32 bit.....All of the original versions of the famous chess engines....including Houdini 1.0 Rybka 1.0 Junior 7 Fritz 5.32 Fritz 6.0 Deep Fritz...Stockfish 2.2.2 Fruit 2.31 Stockfish 2.0 1.0 Gandalf Ktulu Crazy Bishop...Arasan Crafty..etc..etc...are in 32bit......so when testing why would anyone want to test 32 bit and 64 bit engines together vs testing 32 bit engines seperately from from the 64 bit ones? Is it not better to test apples with apples and oranges with oranges? AR
