Komodo Coasts To Victory Over Benjamin

The world's highest rated chess playing entity, Komodo, set the tone in the recent Man Vs. Machine odds match against GM Joel Benjamin by converting a magnificent positional duel in game one.

April issue of Chess Life has a long report (by me) on the Komodo vs. Nakamura handicap match. I think these matches are generating lots of good publicity for Komodo, for computer chess, and for chess in general.

I just downloaded that issue but have not had a chance to look at it yet. Thanks for the heads up.

I wonder if anyone can answer these two questions:

1. Which version of Komodo was used for the match?
2. What hardware was used?

Just wondering because of this quote in the article:

Benjamin acknowledged having practiced for this game, but sadly said, "It didn’t make too much difference; in the match Komodo played much slower and better than in my practice games."

Thanks!

It was Komodo 9.42, which had just been released. Komodo ran on my 24 xeon core machine. Probably Joel practiced at faster time limits than the match (45' + 30"), and I'm sure he doesn't have anything like a 24 core machine.

It would be interesting to know what contempt values Benjamin used in his practice games.

I didn't ask him, but most likely he just used the default 10 since he wasn't very familiar with Komodo.
