Thank you Peter for releasing this new Texel version.

A nice improvment for such a pleasant engine 8-)

Hi Peter!
Interesting engine!
The combination between Gaviota gtb and Sygy TBs are the most!
A wish: could you implement Winboard protocol?
Thx in advance

I don't plan to implement the winboard protocol but it should be possible to use the polyglot adapter instead to achieve basically the same effect. I think new enough versions of winboard and xboard even do that automatically.

Hi Peter!
I know that with polyglot can be the same effect.
Its not my issue. WB protocol its for engines autonomy from the gui...and philosophical issues..large enough for to discuss here.
Well, thanks and maybe you can reconsider your decition.
Nice engine. And a novelty your implementation of sygy and Gaviota tb, both coordinates. Can you explain your goal?
Thx in advance

I think the UCI protocol is good enough so I currently have to plans to implement the WB protocol.

I have been planning to explain this in more detail. Thanks to your interest I finally took the time to do it. You can read about it in the programming section.

If you are already using syzygy TBs then it should make no difference at all for elo if you also add gaviota TBs. The gaviota TBs will in this case only be used after the engine has calculated that one side has a forced tablebase win.

Using both gaviota and syzygy tablebases at the same time is therefore only useful in analysis mode to find shorter mating lines faster, and in game playing mode if you like to see the engine win an already won position in fewer moves.

I see that Texel doesn't have a "Syzygy Probe Limit" whereas Stockfish and Komodo do have that parameter. Does that impact on Texel when using Gaviota tablebases along with only 5-man Syzygy tablebases? In other words, shouldn't Texel have a settable Probe Limit too?
