Downloading 6-men Nalimov EGTBs

Post by Nordlandia »

I want to probe 6-men Nalimov to check soundness of composed problems.

Houdini 5 Pro pluss 6-men Depth to Mate format.

Please share known recipe

Pickup a 256 gb usb 3 flash drive , send it to me and I will copy them on for you and return. PM me if you're interested. Figure about $15 for return postage ( US to Europe). You can probably probably pickup from amazon-us and have shipped directly to me at modest expense. Do not buy usb2, it takes too long.

As the sesse link clearly states, Nalimov tablebases are over one terabyte. Do you even have them?

I'm puzzled by his not wanting to use Syzygy tablebases, too. I suppose he doesn't want to observe the 50 move rule.
Deasil is the right way to go.

I'm downloading them manually, although painfully boring.

50% done after about 3 hours.

Fritz GUI crashed, Arena GUI worked with 6-men Nalimov at 505 GB, stored on HDD.

My internet speed is 35 MB/s

Early try:

! It's mate in 60 according Lomonosov EGTBs !

It's close nevertheless

Do Samsung SSD 960 Pro drastically increase endgame problem capabilities.

Samsung rate the 960 Pro at 3500 MB/s reading, and 2100 MB/s writing

Compared to Samsung 850 Evo at ~500 MB/s read.

-> M.2 lined up against regular SSD <-

Is current engines scaled to take advantage of extra speed of M.2 SSDs !?

Idea

It probably helps a lot with Nalimov files.

For the Syzygy files, they get cached more effectively, so I guess it won't help nearly as much with those.
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

Both the Shredder and HIARCS GUI's will query online 6-man Nalimov TB's. The Aquarium GUI will query 7-man TB's (Lomonosov).

These things aren't free but they will save you the hassle of downloading and storing the 6-man set.

For 6 men there are several FREE online services, just one of them below:

Just ignore the distinction between a win and a cursed win if you want that. This should be sufficient.

However, you still get DTC rather than DTM play, which may or may not be what you want.
