Problems installing houdini 5 pro

Post by fantasmadel50 »

I get the following error "Can not find the entry point of the InterlockedCompareExchange64 procedure in dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll" I tried to download KERNEL32.dll and put it in the installation folder but it still gives me the same error note I have win xp 32 bit, which windows system is the minimum to install? Can you help? Thank you very much.

Better to email Houdini support. Robert is usually quite prompt in replying although it is holiday season.

A quote from the Houdini 5 users manual about the Pro version.
http://www.cruxis.com/chess/manual/inde ... ersion.htm

Houdini Pro is intended for power users with high-end hardware.
The main differences with the Standard version are:
• Houdini Pro supports up to 128 threads.
• Houdini Pro supports up to 128 GB of hash memory (131072 MB).
• Houdini Pro supports Large Memory Pages.
• Houdini Pro is NUMA-aware.
• Houdini Pro can use Nalimov end game table bases
.

It does not look suitable for Win XP 32 bit.
The ordinary version might be better for you.

But this says nothing about the OS? This should have been mentioned at the site.
Anyhow I agree that the Pro version makes not much sense on Win XP-32, even if we don't know the hardware.

Edit:

Code: Select all

Houdini is written for Windows and will run on any not too ancient Windows version. On Linux you can run Houdini using Wine without any significant performance loss.
It is debatable if Win XP counts as 'not too ancient', at least it is not supported anymore by Microsoft, but as long as you are not connected to the internet I would say it is still ok.

There is a possibility though that the quoted paragraph above simply was not updated since Houdini 4...

Very friendly as always, I agree on the official page does not clearly mention that you can not use w xp. This should be clear to the prospect from my point of view. Muy amables como siempre, coincido en la pagina oficial no menciona claramente que no se pueda utilizar w xp. Esto debería de estar bien claro para el cliente potencial desde mi punto de vista.

WinXP is no more supported since April 8, 2014 -> https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/Windows ... xp-support
For your computer security, it's highly recommended to upgrade your OS.

We can agree, but in the official website of chess base, when you want to download the fritz 15, in the section system requirements, clearly make it work in XP. Another thing is that microsoft will get the support.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS FOR FRITZ 15

Minimum: Pentium III 1 GHz, 2 GB RAM, Windows XP (SP3) / 7/8/10, DirectX9, graphics card with 256 MB RAM, DVD player Windows Media Player 9 and internet access.

Recommended: Intel i7 (Quadcore) PC, 8 GB RAM, Windows 10 / 8.1, DirectX10, graphics card with 512 MB RAM or more, 100% compatible sound card with DirectX10, DVD drive and internet access. The only thing I change between fritz 15 and houdini 5 are the engines.
