The tournament is coming to an end ... it was great fun following it .... thanks clements ... and congrats to H for a strong #2 place inspite of losing 2 games on time issues
Was Brainfish using its opening book, while the other engines used no opening book? If the idea was to see the benefit of the book, brainfish with no book should also have been in the tournament. If the idea was to compare how engines play with a book, you could choose whatever non-private book you consider best and have all the other engines use that book. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you ran.

Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

No, Clemens told me in the german css-forum, Brainfish played without its Cerebellum-Library. Then Brainfish is 100% identical to Stockfish.

Ok, thanks, that makes more sense.
It is a bit confusing. When Brainfish was announce here:

It is a bit confusing. When Brainfish was announce here:
It said " The book is contained in the exe itself, to demonstrate the unity of both. ". Has that been changed so it only uses an external book file?
Mark
Yes. Because the Cerebellum Library is updated very often and Thomas Zipproth decided, to separate Engine and Library, because he didnt want to do so much engine-compiles.
So, Brainfish has now the UCI-parameter BookPath, to load the Cerebellum Library. And without the Library, Brainfish is identical to a fast Stockfish-compile.
Thanks, that clears things up. Do you happen to know the final Brainfish that still had in internal book? It would use useful to know for people testing engines, since having a book is a huge benefit (even if the book is moves the engine would play anyway, it still saves a huge amount of time in the opening).

No, sorry. But it was some month ago...not much long after the release.
