Tom - I'm assuming you'll have access to all the new CPUs tomorrow after the embargo is broken. Can you provide us Fritzmarks and Stockfish benchmarks? As a chess enthusiast we would be able to trust your results were properly achieved.

"The full AMD Ryzen launch day slide deck has leaked out." Maybe it is true and benchmarks seem pretty good, all in all Ryzen 7 1700X just below 8 core i7 6900K. No Fritz bench here.

I am super impressed by the stats to be honest. Even if you argue that it's below the i7 6900k, which I think is not so clear, it manages that performance at a much lower TDP and at a fraction of the cost. I haven't been following the CPU races much recently but this looks really interesting.

Blows out 5960X, same number of cores, but at exorbitant price, which was the pinnacle of desktop processors 2 years ago.Steve Maughan wrote:WOW - this is the new chip for computer chess!!

....and 32 core Naples is around the corner!!
Anyone know the likely price-point for Naples?

Naples is top of the line "enterprise chip" that is designed for the server market. My guess is it will cost at least $2,000. New Xeons are much more expensive than that core per core, I never dreamt of having a new 16-core dual Xeon, was just looking at second hand, but never managed to assemble one. I will go for Ryzen, these are great news.Steve Maughan wrote:....and 32 core Naples is around the corner!!

A dual 16 core Intel server is around $10,000 to $12,000. Every 64 GB of RAM is $450 more. I would guess that a Naples server would be around $5,000 to $7,000. FYI, Naples has the option of two 32 core chips on the same board.Steve Maughan wrote:....and 32 core Naples is around the corner!!
