How to Download Syzygy Endgame Tablebase Files
Can somebody please tell me how to download Syzygy tablebases without having to click on every single file? Also I encountered errors while downloading only 3 or 4 files, I started over several times then just gave up because the corruption of files never stopped. The website I tried using is: http://tablebase.sesse.net/syzygy/

I never used a Torrent client before so I would need instructions on that also.

If you're using Linux you should just be able to click on it. The program is called Transmission. Make sure you have enough disk space.daniel71 wrote:I never used a Torrent client before so I would need instructions on that also.
Deasil is the right way to go.

In any Linux distro like Debian, Ubuntu, Arch, Gentoo etc,daniel71 wrote:Can somebody please tell me how to download Syzygy tablebases without having to click on every single file? there's a standard GNU tool called 'wget' you can use wget to download all syzygy files:
wget -c -r --no-parent -A "*" http://tablebase.sesse.net/syzygy/3-4-5/
If you are using Windows OS, there's a GNU port of wget util at
http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/wget.htm
Download this wget tool, install it, then issue the same wget command above to retrieve all syzygy files. No need to click files one by one, this single command will grab all syzygy files.
If your download is disrupted, re-issue the command to continue the download.
Same command as linux:
Code: Select all
wget -c -r --no-parent -A "*" http://tablebase.sesse.net/syzygy/3-4-5/

Re: How to Download Syzygy Endgame Tablebase Files
I ended up downloading a Torrent client. http://www.techradar.com/reviews/qbittorrent
This didn't work out so well, all the files downloaded overnight easy enough then when I used the files in Chessbase Komodo 9.1 I kept getting engine exception errors, I tried to reinstall Komodo and could not get it to work properly. Then I downloaded Stockfish 1513611027 Dev. Engine and kept getting the engine exceptions. Then I removed the tablesbases from being accessible to be used and everything ran perfect. It seems the Syzygy Tablebases are corrupted and unusable for me. I had purchased Chessbase 13 and never installed it so it included Endgame Turbo 4 Syzygy Tablebases so I'm stuck with this right now. I'm going to test this and see if this works. Has anybody encountered all these engine exception problems with Syzygy running on Chesbase products? Thanks for your help and Merry Christmas!

If you're not able to download a larger file without errors, you probably have hardware problems or a very bad internet connection.

Re: How to Download Syzygy Endgame Tablebase Files
I have a cable internet that is 150mb down and 5 up, no problem with my internet.
After I checked the Syzygy Chessbase 4 disc tablebases I had no problems with chess engines giving special exception error codes. What are the checksum that I seen talked about that lots of people have corrupted tablebases and was told to check the files? What do I download and how to use the checksum to fix corrupted tablebases? I already deleted the downloaded tablebases as they are corrupted. I would try again but not the torrent files.
I have no hardware problems.

See the entry under September 27, 2013.
There is not really any other explanation. Unless you were impatient and did not wait for the downloads to be completed.I have no hardware problems.
