This should be about the same as knight + move handicap, if a pawn = two tempi at the start. But in this particular position, with the "c" pawn missing, the b1 knight is more needed than the g1 knight, partly to block any check on b4, so this particular position is relatively more favorable for Black than it seems at first.[/pgn]

I really enjoyed playing this game where I set up a pawn blockage or barricade which caused Komodo to use a lot of time and later made unsound moves like 41.g3? which allowed my Queen to penetrate into the King side and that is all she wrote. Well I found out that a Knight plus pawn odds is too much to give on a slow system like my computer even with two extra tempi one for each piece given away by Komodo.Good Luck Larry and hope that you can make some significant improvements with Komodo to find a way to draw a few games Vs GM Lenderman. Too bad that you can NOT still ask GM Lenderman if he allows to remove one of his pawn when playing Chess960 Knight odds, or a tempi plus a knight odds for the 4 Chess960 games

Nice win, but I'm having trouble replicating some of Komodo's moves, such as move 9 and 17, regardless of settings or time. Was this normal or mcts mode, and what Contempt? Threads still at 1, or raised to 4? The interesting finding so far from both your games and mine seems to be that one pawn makes a huge difference, it seems that material affects the results more than the computer eval does. Not sure why, or what to do about it. We will have a tough time in the FRC games with full knight odds vs. Lenderman, but if we got a pawn back in FRC I think it would be too favorable for Komodo, the combination of the pawn plus the unfamiliar position would be too much. By the way, according to my latest tests Contempt can be raised as high as 180 for knight odds games with good results.[/pgn]

I used contempt 150, Threads 4,King Safety 94, and White contempt was clicked, and MCTS. That is strange because I was trying to re[licate move 9 and now it is playing 9.Qe3 instead of Qf4? and and did it a 2nd time and it played 9.a4. I really do not know what to tell you but on those two moves i noticed that Komodo took a long time to make them when I played the game.
Tomorrow I will replay the game after this move 8 Qxd2 g6

But again Komodo with my position blocked was consuming way too much time, whereas, I was just simply improving my position little by little waiting to set the trap to catch that Huge Komodo Dragon into my NET. Well I found out that a Knight plus pawn odds is too much to give on a slow system like my computer even with two extra tempi one for each piece given away by Komodo. Good Luck Larry and hope that you can make some significant improvements with Komodo to find a way to draw a few games Vs GM Lenderman.
By the way, according to my latest tests Contempt can be raised as high as 180 for knight odds games with good results.

Re: Komodo vs. GM Lenderman match; "Almost a knight"
Okay I will play with the b2 pawn missingChessqueen wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 1:51 am This should be about the same as knight + move handicap, if a pawn = two tempi at the start. But in this particular position, with the "c" pawn missing, the b1 knight is more needed than the g1 knight, partly to block any check on b4, so this particular position is relatively more favorable for Black than it seems at first.

I really enjoyed playing this game where I set up a pawn blockage or barricade which caused Komodo to use a lot of time and later made unsound moves like 25. Rc5? was a mistake by Komodo instead of just retrieving the Rook back the b2, and 41.g3? which allowed my Queen to penetrate into the King side and that is all she wrote. Those settings should be okay, assuming that your computer actually supports four threads. If you don't know, google the model number or post it here. If it has two cores plus hyperthreading (which is likely), then four threads is technically ok, but perhaps the GUI and other things you have running on it are overtaxing it, in which case reducing to three Threads might solve the problem. It is possible there is nothing wrong, since when you use more than one thread you won't always get the same move again in the same time. If you had depth information it would be obvious whether something is wrong. Note that "White Contempt" is really intended for analysis, but as long as Komodo is playing White it won't affect anything whether it is checked or not. If you played games where Komodo was Black and you had that box checked, those games were not valid (unless you put a negative sign before the Contempt value!).[/pgn]
Komodo rules!
