Hi Ted,AdminX wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2020 12:26 amI am not really into Chess960, but what does castling correctly mean? Maybe I don't understand how castling is supposed to work in Chess960. Here is notation of Chess960 played in Banksia.kk wrote: ↑Sun Jun 28, 2020 10:24 pm I mainly use ChessBase, Hiarcs Chess Explorer and Shredder and I have not found anything that allows me to play a 960 game which manages 960 castling correctly with either of these three. I have searched a few times for 960 chess gui interfaces and surprisingly little us returned from the searches.
I am always willing to try new ideas if I have missed something significant.
As I mentioned in a previous post there are one or two guis that will generate 960 start positions but I have not found one that recognises 960 castling either in its search or in the execution of a move on the board.
I would like to be proven wrong as a 960 chess gui would be of great use to me.
It has just been suggested I check out Banksia, so I’m going to give that a try.
Thanks to those that replied to help.

Question 1: Is blacks 1st move incorrect?
Question 2: Is whites 3rd move correct?
As HGM indicated, the castling moves are correct. Although Fritz 17 says it supports Chess960 , it really does not. The implementation is faulty and eventually it will not accept correct moves which is very frustrating. xBoard works perfectly and what is really nice about xBoard is that you just have to select the right starting position and you can simply copy and paste the moves in and it handles it perfectly ( no need to pate a pgn game with the correct flags set etc.) . Not all GUIs can do that - this is really helpful in Chess960 correspondance games. The two most important things about castling first , in a GUI , as HGN mentioned, you always play as if the K is capturing the R. Two , the ending position after castling is always the same as in normal chess no matter where the K and R in the starting position. This means that all squares between te K & R and the ending position must be clear and that no pieces are on the ending position. As example, in the game you
posted, a Q-side castle for white would have required white to clear the pieces from the b1,c1 d1 squares prior to castling.

Mike B
