Best NNUE to test Stockfish and derivates?

Post by AlexChess »

Hi!
On my engines tournaments, when possible I use engines with embedded NNUE and, when not available, I'm choosing a NNUE almost randomly from here: https://tests.stockfishchess.org/nns , selecting the most recent ones. I use them instead of the default (green) Stockfish suggested nn-62ef826d1a6d.nnue by SFisGOD because I suppose that it is obsolete having been released 5 months ago (20-11-28)

But maybe programmers are tuning their engines using the default and their performances with a more recent NNUE aren't assured?

What is your opinion?

Most NNUE node heaps are tuned at blazing speed.
I think that for contest speed (other than blitz) we don't really know which ones are strongest.
I have found that for analysis, the big nets are much better (I analyze at very slow time control, sometimes an hour or more per position with 60 threads or so).

Pohl has the most organized NNUE testing, and there are a few others.
You might look at Pohl's results, if is site is back up.
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.
