That's not always true. Maybe the whole pc crashes (not Banksia's fault) and even if Banksia was 100% stable, it would still lose games. The best thing to do would be to save the running tournament after every game is finished.

Reading about the actual problems it seems that Banksia crashes are responsible for them. Making it stable would have solved all the current (two; yours and Alexchess) problems. So fixing Banksia should have highest prio.CMCanavessi wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 5:01 pmThat's not always true. And from the programmers point of view: Fixing crashes of your program should ALWAYS have highest priority.
But of course you are right. Making the (automatic?) backup feature more reliable would also help for the situations you describe.

Re: Banksia GUI released
Arena doesn't loses tournament data, but often it aborts the game without reasons and re-play it again and again
Banksiagui will be perfect with some extra bug fixes. It already has much more features than all the others chess GUIs.
Engine crashes are rare, GUI crashes even less, and as you know I run it on Windows 11 ARM64.
I'm confident about author skills, I must only wait a little.

Andreas, I use Arena 3.5.1, BanksiaGui 0.46 on mac M1 and Windows 11 ARM64 and Cutechess 1.20 on Ubuntu Linux ARM64.
When you have a new NNUE to test, let us know. I'm very happy if I can contribute to Rubichess 2.x success testing it on all ARM64 operating systems

Re: Banksia GUI released
Banksiagui 0.46 has lost played games again..
Finished my 903 games tournament, tried to clone it but was not present in Recent Tournaments, also when completed.
Closed Banksiagui (no crash) reopened it and the games was only 841/903.
I switch back to Arena 3.51 on Windows 10 until the bug is solved.
Best regards,
AlexChess

Re: Banksia GUI released
OFF TOPIC but related to ChessUIs:
Does someone know how to avoid that Arena 3.5.1 VERY OFTEN stops the running tournament asking this silly question???
I want a stable chess GUI!

Re: Banksia GUI released
I could give a guess.I see this message only when I manually close Arena and the current game or move sequence is not saved.
I never saw it in a tournament.
1. Default option for tournaments is that Arena restarts itself after 20 games (Engines / Tournament in the "start/quit" register). Do you see these messages every 20 games?
2. Also default is that tornament games are saved as PGN. You find option in menu Engines / Tournament in the files register. Every of the three options is enables here on my computer. Maybe you have disabled one of the options and now Arena asks you if you want to save the games each time it restarts itself.
As I said: Just a guess.

Re: Banksia GUI released
Thank you Andreas,
Yes, since also very often it suddenly aborts the game for no reason (no adjudication, the pgn reports * for incomplete game) and repeats the same game again and again, I was trying to restart Arena Chess EVERY 1 game to clear RAM / hash. Until now that I have changed the number from 1 to 100 (from the default 20) , restarting only the engines after every game + 5 seconds if it needs while starting the engine, it is playing without looping the same game
(Fingers crossed, because also this way sometimes it has started looping the same game in the past)
I also save all games of the tournament in PGN + engine logs + html crosstable.

Re: Banksia GUI released
Thanks for the suggestion but so far I haven't had any plan to commercialize BanksiaGUI. In contrast, I will release it as an open-source whenever I feel enough and/or tired.
Enjoy!
