For those who don't know:
This is freestyle, centaur mode. Everything is allowed: Databases, analyzes, friends, teamwork, etc. This cannot be played in blitz mode. The moves are entered manually (there is no engine mode)!

60m+30s, 4 Games per day.. not even in professional GM level you get to play this many games. You can at least play max 2 games in a tournament per day. Does Arno expect for him to people sit behind their screen for 12-15 Hours and manually enter all the moves that is suggested by the engine. I think he has shot himself in the foot this time.

Re: Freestyle Chess is Coming Home
I believe freestyle is dead.
The probability to beat unassisted engine at 60+30 time control is close to 0 today.
I believe today no human(with the help of engines) is going to win 2 games out of 10 in a match against unassisted stockfish with some small opening book that is checked for no mistakes in it by stockfish.

4 games as Centaur with time control 60m+30s is not rationally thought by the organizer, as human tiredness and blunders will likely be the outcome among the players...

Qualifying tournament: It will be played on 3 weekends (Saturday and Sunday). There are 3 games on October 23/24, 4 games in November and 4 games in December.
Only one game will be played on the first Saturday. The following Sunday 2. There is a break of 1 hour between the two games.
I don't know what that is so difficult? I also played in the club. I've had to play there for a full day, from morning to evening, even with a hanging game. If you can't do that, you're not a good chess player - you should only keep engines running.
By the way: Registrations are possible as soon as the tournament room is made available on the InfinityChess server in a few days.

The secret is to find a narrow path beyond the engine horizon. Strong players as well as corr. chess players will probably be able to show their superiority here? - or not?! That’s going to be interesting.Uri Blass wrote: ↑Thu Oct 07, 2021 4:44 pm I believe freestyle is dead.

I'm a sucker for these events, so I'll probably end playing, but I must admit I've never been less excited about the prospect.

One should not forget that in the end it is all about having fun and enjoying chess! I find this discipline very interesting. Here the person decides which variant should be played.
And the engines used are also chosen by people. Sometimes it makes sense to analyze in MV mode. The new star in MV mode is said to be the new Dragon. In MCTS mode too. Good analysis engines are required in this discipline. Which engine rocks the best here? Isn't it interesting enough to find out?

I don't entertain the idea of a draw-fest as very interesting, no.
