Do it only work with bluethoot board?
I tried my (old) DGT usb board but it wouldn't connect to my phone. Both Chess for Android and Acid Ape app find my board. Maybe I'm confused by the video.

I just got around to testing this today, so far your assessment seems correct as I also have to USB model and it did not locate it. Hopefully he will fix this with a update.

UPDATE:

It works!!! I had to use my Dell USB Hub (Connected to my Phone) and then tell it to use USB-Serial connection under settings. After that I was able to use it and played some short test moves versus Stockfish 12.

PS: DGT Chessboard was connected to the Hub and make sure to check the check box for 'Display Unknown Devices'.

UPDATE 2: Tested it with two other USB hubs and they both worked as well.

Best of all no need to pay Acid Ape 60 USD for DGT Driver. That is a game changer for me!

If it works with the hub and not without, then the USB serial connection to the board is working. It looks like the phone doesn't provide power to the board. I assume the USB-hub is powered?

AFAIK, Acid Ape was free in the beginning as well; at some point they started asking money. I don't know if you could still download an old version of the app and use that, through something like APK Mirror. I'd gladly pay for an app that is useful to me, but $60 to get some drivers is a ridiculous amount of money. (I've actually paid for apps in the past that I don't use anymore, for whatever reason, but back then they were useful, so I don't regret the purchase.)

In 2021, to be honest, DGT should have their own app to use the DGT-board for playing. (Although I understand that in newer Android versions, installing sperate engines is going to be a problem because of 'security risks.')

No, it is not powered. I only have one hub of the three hubs that need USB power.

This was the trick for me. Now it works with and without the HUB, Though I have an USB A plug so I have a small adaper (USB-c -> USB-a) connected to my phone.
