Question about "CuteChess"
I decided to check out the "CuteChess" GUI for testing engines (I mostly use Little Blitzer for Windows testing now). I downloaded version 1.2, but I don't see how to play game/X time controls, either with or without increment. or even game/x second or third time controls. Am I missing something, or do I need some other version? It is hard to believe that a GUI with so many features such as supporting dozens of variants (many of which I've never heard of) wouldn't support the dominant time control in modern chess. As far as I know, 40/x indefinitely repeating is no longer used in human tournaments (except for perhaps very rare cases), and it is rapidly becoming obsolete even in the engine testing community.

Re: Question about "CuteChess"
Very easy to set: Time controls: mode tournament, Moves 40, Time 5 minutes etc. I really like Cutechess. EXCELLENT! And no unnecessary things like user defined board/colors - unnnecessary

Re: Question about "CuteChess"
I don't understand; wouldn't that setting make it play 40 moves in 5 minutes, repeating, which is exactly what I'm trying to avoid? How to make it play game in 5 minutes (for example), either with or without an increment?

Re: Question about "CuteChess"
You should set "Moves" to 0 if you want fixed time for the entire game.

Re: Question about "CuteChess"
OK, setting moves to zero makes "whole game" appear now, that works! Somehow when I cleared out the 40 moves earlier it just replaced the 40, I'm not sure what I did differently then, but no matter, it works now.

Re: Question about "CuteChess"
Thanks, I really like cutechess! But I can't seem to get the menu for UCI options to work when creating an engine. For example, let's say I want to set Threads to 4 on any modern engine, exactly what do I type for "init string" to make it happen? I've tried everything I can think of and it seems to just ignore whatever I do.Guenther wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 10:20 pmIn case you are interested in a later more advanced version:

for each -engine you should add option.Threads=Nlkaufman wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 11:34 pmThanks, I really like cutechess! Where Threads equals whatever UCI parameter the engine expects and N equals the thread count
Rybka expected something like MaxThreads or MaxCPUs. Stockfish and most other engines expect Threads.
Edit: In the GUI, these should be manually set for each engine, if the option is available.
