Stockfish Classical

Post by Hamster »

For about one year NNUE is the superior approach to evaluation compared to the classical approach. I don't recall where but I read that July 2020 is the strongest Stockfish with classical evaluation, did someone put this to the test? Are there even situations where it makes sense to use the classical eval (e.g. certain positions)?

Sopel or ChickenLogic might be able to answer your question.

Some people believe that SF11 is the best matesolver. In my mate testsuite it is better than SF14.1 with or without NNUE.

Last I checked Stockfish still used the classical eval in some situations, in particular cases of imbalanced material.
