Square Off Pro: Do I understand it correctly

After watching some review/unboxing videos on the new Square Off Pro, it seems the board is just a communication device.
All the AI is in the app that runs on your phone or tablet. Even just playing the AI at one of the 20 levels is part of the app.
Is this correct?

I believe so. That way the ap hopefully can be updated with new versions of the engine and with other engines.

I did a patents search recently where I was able to use one of their youtube videos as a citation!

So, if my phone and/or tablet is too old for the app then I have to buy a new tablet as well.

It requires Android OS 4.3 or higher. My tablets are 4.0 and 4.2. Between the need for a new tablet and that it is new, I'll wait a while.
