Is it possible to let Fritz 18 play a certain opening when playing an Easy Game with Evolving Genius.
Say for example I just studied the Queen's Gambit Declined for white. And I want to play some training games in these lines. Can I load a CTG book made from a pgn with the lines of Queen's Gambit Declined and force Fritz 18 to play the black replies of the CTG book?

Glad you asked that and I was wondering the same thing...have an opening book out of which the engine starts playing. I hope to tool around with the program this weekend...after I've done some remodeling in my home work office. Someone else probably already knows the answer though.

In Fritz 17 you have to make a new ctg book, and ad priority analysis.

Then every move needs to have a ! in order to force the engine to play the lines.
I used to have a commend line tool called markup-pgn to mark every white or black move with an informant symbol like (!)
I still have a tool lgpgnmw to mark al the moves with a (!), but that tool only works with a 32 bit system.

I hope someone knows where I can download this markup-pgn tool.
Or maybe it can be done with some other tools like pgn-extract.

If you have enough disk space, you don't need to create a new book, just copy the book, all three files and name it "training.ctg". Then you open that book and right click to delete the moves you don't want it to play. Alternatively, you black them out - don't play them in the tournament. And then you can continue to import newer games into this book.

I asked the question in an email to Chessbase.
According Chessbase, it is not possible to force Fritz to follow the opening lines of a CTG book in Easy Game mode.
If someone knows how to do it, I like to hear how.
It is possible to force Fritz to play the openings of a CTG book, in regular games I think.
I hope Chessbase can bring this option to Easy Game, and Friendly game mode to.

You can start the easy game from anywhere as long as the position can be navigated to in the notation window.
For example, I had a Bogo-Indian position from a game loaded using the Classical menu, then I switched to the
Easy Game menu and picked up the (easy) game from Black's 5th move and continued playing from there.

The Bogo-Indian game was the last thing I had open under the Classical Menu and it kept it in the notation window
when I switched menus. You can do the same with any opening.

New Update now:

8.2
- Evolving Genius ("Geführt - Berührt"): Autoplay moves now more aggresive to create sharper games.
- Tactical Analysis annotates sharper alternatives to game continuation.
- Annotate the game with a final praise comment if it is interesting.
- Analysis Comments (weak alternatives, threats, game continuation) respond much faster.
- Analysis Comments: Make mate variations longer.
- If no weak alternatives found in Infinite analyse, show "---" as feedback.
- Suppress mouse over in visual eval for non-classical chess.
- Extend the visual eval colour scale slightly to a blueish green for very active (or safe) pieces.
- Performance gain in visual eval.
- Figurines in line selector dialog.
- Cyrillic characters and missing Elo and medals in game lists.
- Bug "not a valid database for endgame training".

Apparently it is possible to force Fritz 18 to play the openings of a CTG book in Easy Game mode, by replacing the Fritz18.ctg book, with an own created book.
