oops, Carlsen won! How could that be? Nepo made the mistake of trying to play with Queen against two rooks. It's difficult in the endgame. Rooks are stronger, and the knight was stronger then the Bishop.

Nepo played practically the same thing 3 times and didn't show anything in game 5. You don't need to be an expert to see this. He's the most boring candidate for the title in recent years.
Yet you keep watching, why?

Yes indeed, and let me point out that Game 2 was the most watched live game in chess history according to Esport Charts. Chess24 and Chess.com accounting for 80% of the eyeballs....and they expect the record to be broken more times during the match.

Anyone who might think classical chess is 'dead' or somehow 'boring'...just does not know what that are talking about. Even that horrible POG stuff brings the eyeballs.

"Human" chess chees seems to be more popular than ever, and classical chess, like most sports, is about the fight, the drama, and the ideas. I enjoyed Svidler's and Kramnik's analyses -- they make you understand what's happening on the board, how GMs think, and the nerves, the fears, the hopes. I am a bit disappointed by the result so far -- I would like Ian to win, but then, I also wanted Morozevich to be world champion and my wife to be a blonde -- but for the rest, it is a great match, and the level of play is very high.

I also liked Svidler's humility, especially when he asked Kramnik about a type of position where Vlad excelled.

Nothing special. Just another Anti-Marshall by Nepo which poses zero problems to Carlsen.
(Hopefully he will allow the Marshall at least once?)

Already between move 22-26 half of the remaining pieces were exchanged.
After this the structure was so easy that they played the rest very fast 'till move 41 and called it a day.

Let's hope your wife is not on the forum.

You know? I was going to post something to that effect, then thought I better not. A moot point now, I guess.

Game 8 - Nepo on tilt, should be over by move 35.
Several games left....but this 'is over'.

Eduard wrote: Tue Nov 30, 2021 9:47 pm I read some GM analyzes on the current WCh match in Dubai. In some analyzes, human errors are played down! Whatever the world champion is playing is supposedly "fascinating". What does it matter if the engine says -1? "Here is a strong knight and a wonderful bishop on e4".

I studied a lot of computer games. I've been working on making books for many months, and with success! I get several thousand games a week that Stockfish plays with 64 cores. I invest a lot of hours to find new book variants.

For me there is no longer any doubt that the engines (especially Stockfish) plays significantly better than any human (I think 1000 Elo over all GMs). Stupid and fast, that was yesterday. The engines have learned an incredible amount since the neural network was around.

So if an engine in the middlegame shows an eval of +1 for one side, then that has not yet been won, but the direction is correct. As a person, you should then ask yourself: Why is Black +1 better? Instead of claiming that "White's position is humanly considered to play better". I think we can learn a lot from Engines now, also positionally. The engines have reached a new level of chess, and so we should trust the engine evals and let us show us why the engines rate one way and not another. In any case, I learn a lot from engines. You don't get better at chess by learning some new tactical tricks, but by learning a deeper understanding of positions. Today's engines show us this better than any human.
Agreed......Currently Vishy Anand is refusing to use or even discuss Computer analysis as he covers the Worlds Championship match games in real time (FIDE)...He's caused quite a bit of frustration in the live Chat with people using their home computers to come up with evaluations...It's quite strange as I read somewhere he was known for extensive use of computers for his opening preparation... :)

As I said, it's all about money. When they had a chance to make some, it was perfectly acceptable:
During this early years, there was a rift between the chess elite and amateurs. While the former had a place in León, the latter had to seek solace in online play. It was the Advanced Chess Organization (CCO), the one responsible to hold the Advanced Chess Tournaments, on the Free Internet Chess Server (FICS). There was a total of fifteen events, with the las one taking place on June 18, 2005. This was a time, when Anand was still considered to be the best player in the field, basically because groups of players were isolated, and there was no money incentive, for amateurs to really show their potential. This was about to change.
Once they had to fight for the prizes with everyone, it stopped being a serious endeavor for them, or so they said. It's the fox and the grapes all over.
