It seems that there is something wrong with the new net.

I updated stockfish in order to have a better net but it seems that the analysis is very similiar and I wonder if the new nnue that they claim to be from 17.12.2021 is really different or maybe stockfish does not use NNUE with big material difference but in the last case what is the source of no improvement in the evaluation.

I see the same 23.69 evaluation at depth 1 also with new stockfish and the same 23.23 at high depth also with new stockfish version.

Woah, I just took a look at the code. Like many things with SF, it's a bit weirder than that.

But yes, the gist is in "unbalanced" positions Stockfish switches to the HCE evaluator. This situation would almost certainly qualify. In fact, if you put the position in and ask SF for eval, you get this at the bottom

So I'm pretty sure it's just pulling from the classical.

In this case it seems that something is very strange in the classical evaluation because I expect even with using only piece square table evaluation
that the advantage of white get bigger with a deeper search and I think that the evaluation should encourage trading pieces when I am sure that even if you do not find a forced win of material you should find a force trade of material.

I find this case not so strong Uri... I mean, if you don't have an example where for instance Wasp takes a lot less moves to win, and I don't care if you have to give wasp a lot more time to do that, than Stockfish. Or situations where Sf seems to avoid an exchange where that seems a good thing to do. It is not very easy to exchange the light pieces if the position is closed because of the many pawns, and also not very easy to make the heavy pieces control a lot of squares behind enemy lines or even attack the King when he can hide a little bit here again because of the many pawns still on the board. White can start winning pawns I think, but first he has to mobilize and that takes a little more time because more pieces. So it is not obvious to me Wasp scores really mean more than Stockfish small increments.

Tried a simple shootout Stockfish against itself, fixed depth at 25 plies. Only at move 16 there is the first pawn capture by both sides, and that is not the move Sf prefers coming back to this position. In the analysis Stockfish pushes e4-e5 and Black actually gives material, which is a bit strange

I find this case not so strong Uri... I mean, if you don't have an example where for instance Wasp takes a lot less moves to win, and I don't care if you have to give wasp a lot more time to do that, than Stockfish. Or situations where Sf seems to avoid an exchange where that seems a good thing to do. It is not very easy to exchange the light pieces if the position is closed because of the many pawns, and also not very easy to make the heavy pieces control a lot of squares behind enemy lines or even attack the King when he can hide a little bit here again because of the many pawns still on the board. White can start winning pawns I think, but first he has to mobilize and that takes a little more time because more pieces. So it is not obvious to me Wasp scores really mean more than Stockfish small increments.

Tried a simple shootout Stockfish against itself, fixed depth at 25 plies. Only at move 16 there is the first pawn capture by both sides, and that is not the move Sf prefers coming back to this position. In the analysis Stockfish pushes e4-e5 and Black actually gives material, which is a bit strange

White gains Knight against two pawns but have no idea if that is the best Black can do, I mean, Stockfish may not be the best arbiter here.

Stockfish needed more than 50 moves to mate against itself and it is a lot of moves.

I remember that I made games between engines with queen handicap and not with queen and 2 rooks handicap and the mate was usually faster than 50 moves and often faster than 40 moves.

If you play stockfish against other engines with both sides then I strongly believe that other engines are going to mate faster.

I expect even with using only piece square table evaluation
that the advantage of white get bigger with a deeper search and I think that the evaluation should encourage trading pieces when I am sure that even if you do not find a forced win of material you should find a force trade of material.

How can the PST evaluation encourage trading pieces? I think that the opposite happens: in absence of forced win of material, the stronger side pieces tend to occupy better squares than the weaker's, since he's stronger, so trading pieces will lower his score.
