Most Aggressive Chess Engine Slow Chess Berserk and Revenge Chess

Post by jmartus »

Between Slowchess 2.8, Berserk 8.0 and Revenge Chess 2.0 in my testing I feel Revenge Chess 2.0 is the most aggressive. Anyone else have any testing done or any opinions?

Define aggressive.

Ten years ago I tried to come up with a quantitative test for aggression. It’s flawed, but I tested how long it took modern engines to mate an 1800 elo engine. The idea was “aggression” usually means “tendency to launch king attacks”, which against weak opposition results in early mate and thus a low move count on average, since mate ends the game and spares us a grinding endgame.

Therefore, if with a group of engines all around 3000 elo (as they were 10-15 years ago) one engine consistently mates the 1800 elo engine more quickly, it’s a good sign it’s very aggressive.

IIRC HIARCS Paderborn did well.

Maybe you could try this with your 3 engines..?
