New DGT online chessboard!

Post by PeterO »

Hi Chess friends,

DGT is going to release a new plastic board (similar to Centaur) for playing games online.
Named the Pegasus, you will be able to connect to Chess.com and Lichess via your smart phone.

What do you think? Will you buy it?

I'm of the opinion that DGT should just bring out a tablet / phone app (paid, for all I care), or a computer such as the DaVinci (Certabo) but with a better screen, to replace both the DGT Pi and the DGT3000 Limited Edition.

Just build a DGT 4000, give it a nice 7 inch display, and build a Pi right into it. And give it a proper wooden case for god's sake. (If I had any woodworking skills, I could have made it myself...)

Hi,

The DGT Pegasus uses smart bluetooth (no pairing - just start the app - less energy), boots in 2 seconds, weighted pieces - felt on the bottom. You can save the pgn of the game, send it to another app to analyse it/ or your favourite PC chess programm (Fritz?).It supports chess.com, lichess, chess24. Other plattforms will come, other apps will come: shredder? - hiarcs? - white pawn? - chess for androids? - we will see.

For me its a MUST HAVE!

I'm interested in buying this board because you can easily take it with you to play chess with someone face to face ,and record the games.
I also have some questions.
-I have a DGT Smartboard I take with me to record games played face to face with someone. I works great except if the DGT Smartboard is laying on a table with metal parts. The metal doesn't even have to be magnetic. If a brass or copper plate is on top of a wooden table it will already give problems to record the games. Can you please check for me that this isn't the case with the Pegasus board.
-With the DGT Smartboard you don't have to rotate the board each time when you start a new game. You can just ignore the board coordinates and just put up the pieces on the other side of the board, (white pieces on black starting position and black pieces on white's starting position). This doesn't give any problems to register and store the games. Douse it also work like this with the Pegasus board? Or do you have to rotate the board each time if you start a new game?
-With the DGT Smartboard the games are automatically saved to the internal memory, when a powerbank is connected. To indicate against who I played I place the king on the first letter of the name of my opponent (I imagine the alphabet on the squares of the board for this), after I have set the result of the game with kings. Later when I restore the games with DGT LiveChess I can see this king placement so I know who my opponent was. My question is, if I record the games with the Pegasus board, can I just play 10 blitz games one after the other, without having to reach for my phone or tablet for the Pegasus app, before each game, and be sure the games are correctly recorded? And Is there some way to indicate the players name (first letter), so I know who I played against when I download the games.
-How many games can I store? And how many games can I download at once to email to myself, so I can analyse them on my Windows PC.
I hope you can help me with al these questions, so I can make an informed decision if I will buy the board or not.

Hello,

I have just released version 0.5.8.0 of BearChess, a Windows chess GUI for UCI engines.
https://solanosoft.com/

This version supports boards from Certabo and Millennium Chesslink as well as the new DGT Pegasus board.
Many thanks to Gerhard Kalab for his support.
