Some UCI engines have the options "UCI_Limit Strenght" and "UCI_Elo", but I do not see it in Komodo.
It is also interesting, but I think a large number of games is needed to estimate the strength of the human players relative to the arbitrary scale of each engine (I doubt they are accurate).
Actually, if I were training beginners, I would let them play against engines with material odds AND limited strength.
Greetings.
P.S. Komodo 1805 should have taken the perpetual.
Komodo 12 has skill levels from 1 to 20. I would say that level 14 is about 1800 Elo in 15+10 time control. It is 6 ply search with a lot of randomness. Level 15 is also 6 ply, but less randomized.

Chessqueen wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 6:33 pmIt can't be true. Komodo 12 skill 17 is 8 ply and it is certainly much stronger than 2050 Elo at 15+10. I would say that it's at least 2300. Ten games is nothing, a much longer match is needed to get a reliable result. Also, 30 seconds per game means nothing, as both engines at those levels move instantly, so their playing strength is time indipendent. I will run 1000 games and share the results.Fritz 0 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 9:06 amI Just run 10 games match Komodo Dragon 2.6.1 at Elo = 1950 vs Komodo 12.1.1 at Skill Level 17 at 30 Seconds per game and the score ended 6 to 4 in favor of Komodo 12.1.1.

Re: Rook odds match: human vs engines.
Fritz 0 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 8:02 pmTest it if you want to, The reason is that at 30 seconds per game both play instantly, but if you give Komodo 12.1.1 at Skill level 17 more time lets say game at 10+5, then since Komodo Dragon 2.6.1 still is playing instantly regardless of the T/C and Komodo 12.1.1 is using all its available time Komodo Dragon 2.6.1 needs at least to be set to 2135 to be equal to Komodo 12.1.1.. I am also running that test know.Chessqueen wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 6:33 pmIt can't be true. Komodo 12 skill 17 is 8 ply and it is certainly much stronger than 2050 Elo at 15+10. I would say that it's at least 2300. Ten games is nothing, a much longer match is needed to get a reliable result. Also, 30 seconds per game means nothing, as both engines at those levels move instantly, so their playing strength is time independent.

Re: Rook odds match: human vs engines.
The test is over. Komodo 12 level 17 beat Dragon 2.6 ELo 1950 by 339 Elo. It means that Komodo 12 skill 17 performed at 2289 Elo. I don't know why, but I am sure that it's even stronger than that; it's very possible that Elo system is not reliable when the difference between players is so big. Because of that, now I will start a match between Komodo 12 level 17 and Dragon 2.6 Elo 2300. I can bet that Komodo 12 will win.

Re: Rook odds match: human vs engines.
This wouldn't particularly surprise me, after all level 17 in Komodo 12 is just two levels below the maximum limited level (19), which was supposed to be more or less a match for Magnus Carlsen in Rapid, I believe. I recall that in slow blitz, only Naka and MVL ever won even a single game from Level 19 (out of many games by GMs), and I think even Naka had a negative score. The Elo settings in Dragon 2.6 are at least 100 elo stronger than intended, so 2.6 Elo 2300 is probably 2400+ at Rapid, but probably Komodo level 17 is at least that much.Fritz 0 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 9:50 pm The test is over. I think that Komodo 12 level 19 was intended to match Magnus in blitz, not rapid.lkaufman wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 11:03 pmThis wouldn't particularly surprise me, after all level 17 in Komodo 12 is just two levels below the maximum limited level (19), which was supposed to be more or less a match for Magnus Carlsen in Rapid, I believe. It is 10 ply search. As far as I remember, Komodo 14 skill level 24 (12 ply) is estimated to be World Champion's strength in rapid (15+10).
