Without tablebases, Blue Marlin 14.9a after 1. a4 only saw a high score but a draw. But that does not say much. For instance this seemed a draw only

Re: Is this pawnending a draw?
My first impression is a draw, since black can create a passed pawn on the queenside, that will prevent white from winning on the kingside.Thomas Lagershausen wrote: ↑Thu May 05, 2022 5:00 pm [fen]8/pp1k4/2p4p/2p5/2P5/6P1/P3PP2/6K1 w - - 0 34 [/fen]

Re: Is this pawnending a draw?
That's correct, but while both sides will make a queen, White can move the king so that it is close to the remaining black a-pawn and then get a second queen from the white a-pawn.Graham Banks wrote: ↑Fri May 06, 2022 5:25 pmMy first impression is a draw, since black can create a passed pawn on the queenside

That's won for White, even if the Queen- ending after conversion for both sides takes its time.

Hi Peter
As always you indicate the correct method for optimal learning of the position.
Now everything is clear and my understanding of this endgame can grow.
Thx for this.
