Deep Shredder 13 - review

Post by Dariusz »

In 2022 we can use Deep Shredder 13 updated version available for the latest Windows family systems.

On the internet "birds are chirping" that Mr. Stefan Meyer-Kahlen is working on the next version of Shredder.

So it is worth taking a look at Deep Shredder 13 and through this review we will try to answer the question, is Deep Shredder 13 still the leading product in the chess software market in 2022 ?
Can Deep Shredder 13 compete with other modern chess software such as Fritz or Hiarcs Chess Explorer ?

I warmly invite you to read the review of Deep Shredder 13.

Everything you listed is dogcrap. What's more to say here?

Maybe you copied your stockfish commits from someone else too?
I will look into that.

You managed to simultaneously insult the poster, the program, the programmer, Shredder fans and basically every program and programmer below Shredder. What is more to say.
Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first
place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you
are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

Hi Eelco,

I know the GUI!?

For eng-eng all what I need runs.
A small list of good known bugs, Stefan know but all the years no GUI updates are available.

Stefan's support is really bad because no bugfixes are years available!
Wait months of an answere if he send him a bug ... with the results nothing is change.

All this is not really important.
For me more or less a working tool.
Like more CuteChess or Chess Explorer.

But indeed the review is nice and good to read.
Features are listed, GUI is generelly very stable and ressources in used are low (very important).

A lot of matches can run to the same time via network on many systems (say it before ... a working tool today).
All is very easy with engine configuration or changes in still running tournaments with *.sto file.
Some other great features.

The writer of the review gave 4.5 of 5 stars!
Should be right (4.25 is better) but ...

For a bad support I would like to give today not more as 3.5 of 5 stars.

I have the feeling that Stefan lost his interest on computer chess a bit or better ...
His energy today is clearly lesser as for 10 years.

Banksia is also a nice and new development.
Nibbler, LucasChess and Liground and some others are really very strong works.

:-)

Best
Frank

At the moment Shredder 12 GUI used on 24x i5 11600k 6-Core systems (an stabilty experiment for the systems).
Via Network ...systems are in an other town.
I restarted for minutes games I can see engines produced crashes.
Very easy from one of my PC's via Network.
Tomorrow I have different thousands games more in my private database.
A dream ... I should build my own server room I think.
But cost for electricity are to high.

I thought Sopel was being harsh, until I read the review. It’s not very objective and sounds like propaganda.

Triple Brain, for example, just doesn’t work very well.
And the engine itself is so much weaker than the best - that should just be acknowledged.

Your message is not very objective also!

Right is:
Never Shredder engines plays interesting attacking chess.
The playing style of the programs is more ... strong in endgames, boring in mid-games.
But Stefan have a lot of success with the boring style ... 19 times World Champion!
Any other programmer can beat that?

Such things I would like more to read!

:-)

Just saw Shredder on the 2022 ICGA participants list:

https://icga.org/?page_id=121

...only 7 on the list so far, how many has TCEC? >30?
