Power Fritz 18

Isn't this just basically a rebranding?

A slightly improved Fritz 18 (Ginkgo) Engine and the "PowerBook" are included (normally, you have to buy the Fritz Powerbook separately).

I will definitly not buy it for 80€, just for testing a little stronger Fritz 18 engine... no thanks.

If anybody does not have the Fritz Powerbook and want to get it, then it could make sense to buy it. Otherwise definitly not. If you already own Fritz 18 (like me).

My 2 cents

I saw that too. I already have Fritz 18 and HIARCS latest book. Just a rebranding ploy.

Translate from german: In Vienna, the most popular chess program was again able to underline its exceptional position.
(ChessBase)

I am not belighted!

Table TCEC S23 - League 1:
Image

Only one Engine is weaker.

Lots of defeats on PlayChess. What is worse, however, are not the defeats but the evaluation of the engine.

[fen]4r2r/1k1nb1p1/1pp3p1/p4pP1/3P1P1P/1PNn1BK1/1P1B4/R1R5 w - - 0 29[/fen]

Eman says +3 but PowerFritz 18 is at Nd3 {-0.01/37 0}). Who can trust the eval of such an engine? I didn't expect PowerFritz 18 to be a grenade, but the evaluation should be a little bit correct.

Next game:

[fen]3r1bk1/1p3p2/7p/1Pp1PP1p/r1P1p3/p3K1P1/P7/B1R2R2 b - - 0 34[/fen]

Stockfish +2.72, PowerFritz 18 only +0.62.

Stockfish vs. PowerFritz 18 1-0, PlayChess today:

[fen]1r2qr1k/p1pb2pp/1p1pn3/2n1pPR1/2P1P2N/3PB3/6QP/4RB1K w - - 0 29[/fen]

PowerFritz 18 +0.54 -->Stockfish +3.49.

I didn't think a world champion would be so weak, sorry. As you can see on TCEC, there are many amateur engines that are better. A talented youth club player with ambitions (and all youth should be) can't do good analysis with such an engine.

That sounds 'cynical'. It seems really to be aimed toward someone who doesn't have both...maybe an older version of Fritz (or vice-versa), a 'bonus' for upgrading.

Hi Stefan

Maybe I missed something, but does Power Fritz 18 (GinkGo) engine also come together with 128 cores like it was in WCCC...

In that case one might consider buying it.. :) :)

The only reason I would have to consider is 12 months Premium Account, but I don't even play there enough anymore. Still after all the dust has settled from the cheating news, I bet they bring back the webcam feature for a new fee down the road.

I bought because I have Fritz 18. I play live on the server. For 12 months I would have to pay 35 euros (starter no premium). I don't care about the engine, but the books are almost free and nice. These books are in the package:

Oh, I forgot: Some databases are also included.
