Except, Niemann branded himself. Magnus has not said anything about Niemann cheating officially. So what would FIDE ban him for? Magnus is not the 1st player to not play a game, have others been banned for not playing a game or resigning a game early? It is not an offense to withdraw from a event, that is for sure.

Then why is the chess world talking about cheating only?
His silence is just character assassination.

Re: Carlsen withdrawal after loss to Niemann
Because Niemann has admitted to cheating in the past and that has been proven. Magnus is silent because speaking publicly would be character assassination I imagine. Magnus bears no responsibility for what goes on in the minds of others, he is not responsible for what others assume. Magnus also has the right to keep his reason private if he wants to, he says he might speak more on the matter sometime after the event.

As a known cheater (see the thread about his cheating in lichess on a stream), why should we take Magnus seriously? Or is it one standard for Magnus, another for Hans?AdminX wrote: ↑Fri Sep 23, 2022 11:30 am Because Niemann has admitted to cheating in the past and that has been proven. Fat Titz by Stockfish, the engine with the bodaciously big net. Remember: size matters. If you want to learn more about this engine just google for "Fat Titz".

No one is asking you to take Magnus seriously, on the other hand why should I take Niemann seriously? As I said before, "If you like it, I love it, even if I disagree".dkappe wrote: ↑Fri Sep 23, 2022 12:34 pmAs a known cheater (see the thread about his cheating in lichess on a stream), why should we take Magnus seriously? Re: Carlsen withdrawal after loss to Niemann
Totally different...but in a way not:
Do you remember a decade or so ago when Fox TV host Bill O'Rilley started giving this daily update as to exactly where anyone of a mind could find a specific abortion provider...and one of his listeners (followers...) went out and used that information to find the guy and kill him? Then he claims he was in no way responsible for what others thought and did....despite this and all the 'anti-choice' stance you would see on his program and Fox in general.
If one listens to Magnus' interview (after the final 8 were set) about his actions in this and the previous tournament, he makes it clear he knows what everyone is thinking and why. He alone bears responsibility for what they think...be he right or not in his non- explicit assertions.

You see this is where we disagree, I don't feel in any way that Magnus is responsible for what you or others think here. Especially since he really has not stated anything pacifically as it relates to Niemann cheating. (At least not as of yet) Now even in your example, I think you would have a hard time getting any kind of damages against Magnus in this case.CornfedForever wrote: ↑Fri Sep 23, 2022 3:27 pmTotally different...but in a way not:

18 years old Vincent Keymer Just stated in an interview, that he studied 75% of Carlsen games and he was just waiting for a chance to see how he would play against the Champ. That is the disadvantage of being the Champion, that everybody who wants to become the World champion someday, study your games in detail with top engines looking for ways of how to improve it
