Got it! Thanks Thomas. We understand each other now. Your English is much better than my German, lol.

Hi,
Apart from the source code, can we find an executable of your M3.1 on your downloads page, and if, where?

VirusTotal gives this message about MadChess-3-1.zip :
"4 security vendors and no sandboxes flagged this file as malicious"

Please look into this issue.

There's nothing I can do to suppress that warning. There is no malicious code in MadChess. The zip file contains an exe, of course, because that's how chess engines are packaged. In the world of Windows exes, installation of a chess engine (mine in particular) is relatively rare. I suspect the rarity of the exe is causing a false positive.

Thanks for the executable! I had a display problem on my screen and I did not see the "Binary".

I have updated the The MadChess UCI_LimitStrength Algorithm page on my website. It provides an extensive description of the strength reduction algorithm I created for MadChess. May be of interest to an engine developer who's decided while post-game analysis is great, it would be fun to actually play against their engine. And unless the engine author is exceptionally strong, or their engine exceptionally weak, this requires strength reduction to give the human player a fighting chance to win.

The page includes a link to a beta version of MadChess where I've adjusted the strength reduction code and associated internal engine parameters. I'm still experimenting with parameter values in an attempt to correlate reduced engine strength to Elo ratings. Also, I may adjust the rating ranges over which chess knowledge is gained. I may post updates. When I do, I'll update any parameter values listed on the page, the beta version .zip file, and the update date.

There is not a lot of good news in chess in general and in computer chess specifically in recent months.
This is something that is both good news and interesting.
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

Thanks Dann. There certainly is a lot of drama lately and lively (and unfortunately, repetitive) discussion about the drama on these forums. Nonetheless, hopefully forum members still share an interest in computer chess. Whether it's programming an engine, running engine tournaments, or playing against engines.
