my2cents:

Obviously the current large language models are not able to hold an internal representation of the chess board and apply the rules of chess on it.

Further I would like to remind of the semiotic triangle when communicating with large language models like GPT-3:

There is a simple rule in AI: once a computer can do something, that behaviour is no longer regarded as intelligent. Quick example: the ability to do arithmetic quickly used to be impressive - now it's a dumb activity for the spreadsheets.

Following this rule, there won't be any intelligent behaviour left by the end of this decade! :)

And how does chess relate to this today… ;)
Computers can pick better chess moves than humans. These days, that feels a bit like saying that cranes can lift heavier weights than humans. :roll:
