I don't waste electricity. Because I'm having fun. I like to play on the server because I enjoy it. I'm all about having fun. It's worth the cost to me. I don't enjoy being cheated on, though. I've been on the server for 20 years and have had a lot of fun so far. I also played a lot of games on the server as a human against engines and had a lot of fun doing it. I developed anti computer killer variants, and yes, I didn't just show it offline. Also Pablo Restrepo (account father) played many Anti Chess games against Engines, I also used his techniques. That was great fun. I played Freestyle Chess, also on Playchess. That was also a lot of fun for me. Now I'm interested in engine development. I find that fun. When I don't enjoy it anymore, I stop. For me, the purpose is to have fun.Peter Berger wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 10:55 pm No clear idea about current server world per se.
But I was running a computerchess account myself way back in time, and I am near 100% sure that my feedback will be to the point.
I was running the account for Gerrit Reubold, the developper of Bringer on the then hot server, so I was running an account that everybody in the computerchess world was OK to play against in principle. There was no always online service in Germany back then, so I had to log on and somehow manage it.
Bringer was kind of competive these days, and always low-rated – so there was not much of an incentive to play against it.
I am a maths guy, so I always enjoyed reading the „formulas“ of the engines on the then server. NO patch in the world has ever managed to improve +any+ engine more than the formulas on the server. I knew back then that this was not directed against me, and it sure wasn’t, but it was also funny, as it certainly influenced the opinion of the people on what engine was doing well right now.
This was ICC and the amateur world, and a time where you had to wonder at what exact time limit you may be able to challenge mighty „Ferret“,( and this was difficult).
What you are doing now is clearly way worse. You are applying little patches and then you do the formulas with their huge influence and your „testing“, and then you make your judgments.
You are clearly wasting time and electricity .

....I don't enjoy being cheated on...,
Well, 'cheating' is generally defined in chess as getting help during a game. That does not seem to be happening.
If there was some tournament 'ladder' where wins/rating was going on then you might have a case. I do not think there is such a thing though. Perhaps I am wrong on that point? I am on Playchess daily. But I use my own brain.

I'm taking a break from the forum for the next few weeks.
If you want to contact me, you can do so by email, see my homepage. Here in the forum I will not read in the time, also no PM. However, I will not let the matter of cheating on the server rest, that will be clarified with the provider. I think something like this should be banned, if not then anyone can do it. What one person is allowed to do in the same room, another is also allowed to do. It's best if that's not allowed. We will see. Bye.

When you get back, perhaps you can answer the question I posed above. I am just trying to get a handle on what 'cheating' is going on.

Again, I have never cheated. I play all the games trying to set all the engines at their best (both engines) because I need data to improve ProteusSF, playing all games until the end also when the score is already absurd, because I must understand exactly what is happening. Bruteforce is a debacle for example, MCTS is of minimal influence . The games between my engines are maybe 0.1% of total games. You can verify that easily. Why I don't play without ELO? Because all other members like to play and chat with me and I need to play against Zeus, AI, Hypnos that aren't shared publically but no one would play without ELO. Why I don't play only offline between my engines? Move overhead, Slow mover and SyzygyProbeLimit values have big influence only online.
But what can you espect from someone that defines "Grandfathers making engines for grandfathers" two ultra skilled myths of chess engines hystory?" His EGO numbs his mind. Ignoring me (I do that with him since the beginning) he could simply play his games, not stalking others.
