I have been trying to log-in for weeks using my cellphone, I have been locked out for this time by a endless loop of security connection checks, unable to read the posts I gave up, was able to read later just texts and was un-navigable. Tonight I was able to log in but my post disappeared. What happened to this website? I remember the site went down then when I came back online it was just endless loop of security checks. Tonight I was able to sign in on my tablet but not my phone.

It really doesn't help.

Someone -> It was me, I did send you a link to this thread, cos HGM mentioned a potential sell of domain+DB and you made some kind of offer to the community in the past. I do not expect you to fix all the issues (people) going on in here, like Chris said, a small motivated team could get things done, or alike, other forums died, maybe this is just the destiny of TC, to die a slow and steady degeneration death :) people mentioned already that the hot stuff happens in the Discord channels meanwhile...so the next gen of computer chess enthusiasts might have no need for any forum, they already have what they need, or alike, would be nice to have an archive of TC for sentimental reasons though.

I am a member of another board that went a similar way. It used to be pretty democratic and set up in a similar way as talkchess – it is a dictatorship now, and we actually don’t even know exactly by whom.

Admins there do the absolute minimum to keep it alive. It is always an interesting situation when this yearly https thingy runs out, but until now they‘ve always managed to renew it at some point in time. Moderation has stopped - it probably still exists somewhere technically, but members are aware that there is no father (nor mother) figur to deal with daily misbehaviour – so people mostly behave in a pretty reasonable way and just tolerate the stranger ones.

(Btw, I just recognize that this also applies to two other boards I read regularly).

Message boards are a technology of the past. Us older people still like them, but they don‘t attract young and new people. Every single board I know and read is in decline.
The same somehow applies to computerchess itself. While it is very much alive, it has ceased to be of major commercial or scientific interest. So all this stuff with „founding fathers“ seems pretty irrelevant to me – who cares?
So in case this board were working technically, I wouldn’t care in the least about who moderates it or the like (it is is not as if there were even major traffic).

The only real problem here is, that the board is technically broken right now!

So I would appreciate if someone migrated it to another place and kept it alive. So this talk about negotiation – come on, be realistic. This forum has certainly become more of a liability than an asset to chessusa.com IMHO. I’d offer some money to avoid hassle, but no serious amount.
Why do I care? Mostly for sentimental reasons.

We've still got at least one more exciting moment to come: the day chess computers become practically unbeatable.

+1

Seriously, seems there are 66 participating TC members in here (votes), take a look over some past posts, ~50 min to ~100 on avg. to ~256 max views on a single TC post, it is really not that much...

I had occasional issues for a little while, but not of late.

The major purpose of talkchess was to have a moderated international computerchess forum.
Banning people would be the last method.
The major idea was that this forum UNITES us and increases the amount of members.
Supports our hobby and increases our friendship.

We need to have a platform where we can all express our wishes and thoughts no matter if you come from usa, europe or eastern countries.

Therefore blocking people from a whole country or banning people for no real reason is IMO the wrong spirit.
We can only be strong by beeing a community.

I want to remember you to the spirit of people like don dailey, cock de gorter, david Broughton and Thomas Mally and many others.

They were part of our community.
They gave everything they could for the community.
And they are gone today.
But we have to rescue their spirit and memories about them in our community.

We cannot accept a commercial company to interrupt us to grow and remember these brave people.
Computerchess is what we love the most in our life.

And we will not give up and forget anybody.

I am pleased to have met jan Louwmann, cock, don and others.
We can be very happy to had these fine people in our community.

Let us continue this spirit in a forum that is NOT driven by commercial interests. Because we have the duty to memorize our beloved friends.
What seems like a fairy tale today may be reality tomorrow.
Here we have a fairy tale of the day after tomorrow....

I still have issues. I'm probably not unique. I get a usable view maybe half the times I come here.
