Re: EN Engine Test 2023
May 13, 2023: I am critical of stockfish derivatives. Many such engines are publicly available for download without source code. A new such engine is, for example, Raid 1. The following is the comment: "Raid 1 - is a stockfish derivative also supports polybook." The fact is that the attached source code is unfortunately fake - it's an old Glaurung code from 2009. I will ignore such engines.
May 16, 2023: New in the List now, are Vafra 12.4 Cfish, Crystal 6 PMT and ShashChess 23.

Re: EN Engine Test 2023
I only test engines that are not older than 6 months at the time of the test. It would also show me that the author is continuing to develop his engine. It is also important to me that normal games can also be played with the engine. With Crystal 6 it's possible, even on PlayChess! I don't want to test special solver engines without any other skills.
Currently it seems that Shashchess is the most complete of all engines. Very strong in solving positions and very strong in practical games, both in offline tournaments and games on the server!
My congratulations to Andrea Manzo, with ShashChess GZ and v32 he has built an outstanding engine.
I'm not saying this as a fan of the engine. I used to be a big critic of the engine, in particular I didn't like the evaluation of the engine for a long time, what I also wrote publicly.

Re: EN Engine Test 2023
I don't want to call it that. ShashChess contains interesting codes that are not in Stockfish, but make the engine stronger for play and analysis.

Re: EN Engine Test 2023
I use a number of engines to solve mate problems.
My PC has 32Gb of ram, so I started out setting the Hash limit to 16Gb.
I sometimes leave the engines running over night and usually there isn't an issue, but a few engines would slowly eat up all the remaining memory despite there being at least 10Gb free, so I dropped the Hash usage to 8Gb.
Recently I DLed Corchess 20230520 and left it running over night. This morning the PC had crashed. Well, stuff happens, so I rebooted and restarted the same problem over again. I am currently watching it and Corchess is still eating up RAM. it is currently at 25.9GB out of 31.9GB (available). The engine has only been chomping on this FEN for 2 hours, but slowly but surely, it continues to eat memory.

I have the SYZYGY EGTBs on a 2Tb SSD drive. I'm running 6 threads out of 8. (see signature for PC specs).
This isn't good behavior for an engine. I'm not sure what is eating up all the memory, but has any one else notice such behavior in CorChess or other engines?
There is either a memory leak, or something to do with the use of Syzygy. I haven't disabled that (yet) to see if the issue remains.

There is either a memory leak, or something to do with the use of Syzygy. I haven't disabled that (yet) to see if the issue remains.

Re: EN Engine Test 2023
ELO Trolling on PlayChess May 25, 2023:

I had already written about the fact that it is very easy to push your own Elo on PlayChess. If you know how to do it. Skilled cheating paired with real cherry picking, and you can be TOP on PlayChess. The 3 accounts with the funny engine name ELO TROLLING FOR PROTEUS belong to one player, and I think he has more than 3 accounts. Why does he name his engine so strangely? I have also reported on this in the past. A little leaven leavens the whole dough! What Proteus has started, the next ELO TROLLING account now completes. Why not? Why should someone be worse than Proteus, if he can do better?
