With all the current troubles through the years isn't it wise to move to another forum?

Very nice Srdja, is there documentation about the features of the forum software?

BTW, made a post

Thx. Here the official phpBB v3.3 .pdf doc:
https://download.phpbb.com/pub/document ... tation.pdf

Ask Chris for the Admin/Mod account, it is intended for the founders, and take a look into the backend if you like, there is a UCP/ACP/MCP control panel.

Good work - that looks really nice - like suddenly moving forward 10 years into the future! 8-)

I can actually see the FEN board - something I haven't been able to do here for a long time.

In the PGN, the analysis board is missing (an important feature for a weak player like myself to quickly understand why "the obvious move" doesn't work), but I'm sure that can be fixed.
Fixed, E8 is now engine analysis window.

Brilliant! 8-)

Btw - you've slightly misquoted me - I didn't have a YouTube video as the username - but that's OK - I love Eddie Grant's song about Electric Avenue (the first street in London to get electric lighting) as much as you do! :)

Haha, misplaced the link, it was intended as pep up sound for the new forum:

Hello:

Watching how events are unfolding, is there a possibility of make a backup of the whole forum, just like the old CCC? I found an old thread by Ed featuring a search utility for the old CCC, while a question was raised about storing the current TalkChess and size estimates were done:

CCC old archives utility

Regards from Spain.

"Verify you are a human", with the Cloudfare check in front it won't be easy to scrape oldTC topics and posts, maybe Quentin would be so nice to give a backup/archive of the database w/o user data like pw, email, PMs, to someone to host an archive of old posts in a case he sells domain+DB.

The old CCC archive by Sean T Mintz is still online:

Eelco de Groot wrote: Sun Jun 04, 2023 1:33 am Hi everyone, just a comment on your posts and Graham's link;

It says there that Carlos Aristy has been working at Your Move Chess & Games as CEO for eight years. So that is not a recent development. It also says, on the same page, that Quentin Turner is President of the company. I don't know much about it but is that not usually higher than the CEO when it comes to more strategic decisions. It varies greatly I suppose but at the face of it, I would say the decision (to sell a domain) would be more for the President. Both titles do not say who actually is the owner I would say, but not my field. Also, Whois apparently does not give you the holder name anymore -for privacy reasons maybe?-.
I get my knowledge solely from reading a similar discussion a while ago where they thought AliBaba was the owner of Rab https://hiking-site.nl/prikbord/index.p ... ost-174843

Quentin Turner is also on LinkedIn, I'm not, sorry guys, I can not read it.
https://www.linkedin.com/in/quentin-turner-23399570

Basically I thought this discussion was moved elsewhere for being so silent... But we are also waiting for a reply from HGM who was supposed to answer first to an e-mail from Quentin where he had expressed wishes to sell the domain.
As far as I know, Quentin was asked by HGM to quantify the amount of money he wanted (Quentin had suggested he was willing to part with the forum in exchange for money). I believe that HGM didn't get the courtesy of a reply to that question either.

If the data belongs to us, then there can be no ethical objection to using a Cloudflare hack. Here are 8 of them - link.

I actually have another one: once (a few years ago) there was an argument about who posted at the same time as whom, and I wrote my own code to scrape this site. Naturally, I started out writing code to request web pages directly, but I couldn't work out how to manage the cookies in code (I'm sure I could have done, but I didn't want to spend the time doing that), so instead I made the pragmatic decision to do it the "wrong" way - just send keypresses to the web browser, and then scrape the browser content. This is MUCH slower than doing it the right way (I also realised that every few pages you need to send the keypresses to delete the browser's cache of the site's page's URLs, or the browser tries to guess which page you're entering into the address bar, which breaks the URL entry) - but nobody is forcing you to watch the entire scrape! The reason why this would work, of course, is that you, the human, pass the Cloudflare test in your browser, then you start the program.

Anyway - we can all agree to move to a new forum
: for me the issue is the database, which contains historic posts from the top people in computer chess over a long period of time.
Can we ? Look at the poll results, there is no majority for that action. The "Yes" and "No" vote counts are the same, and "Yes" is only 43%.

Good point. I know of at least two of us who voted "no" who might be changing our minds, though (myself and Srdja).
I also voted 'no'...just mainly because the history is so important. Solve that...and I would be okay with changing to yes.
