Very good: explains the legal issue with much more clarity than I have seen elsewhere. Major point: the court has not ruled on whether Niemann cheated in OTB tournaments or whether Carlsen, Chess.com or Hikaru have financially damaged him by slandering him.

Niemann is NOT the only chess Player that cheated before, GM Gary Kasparov cheated playing versus 17 years old Judit Polgar, but he was being recorded , here is the Youtube Video when Gary Moved his Knight to a different and illegal square ==>

The answer is 7% - link.
4.3% if you let the 2700 player play with white.
Agreed.

In the Uralsk Open, Niemann lost with the Black pieces against a 2366-elo FM.

(True, he also had wins against 2602- and 2603-elo GMs.)

Dude plays A LOT...it's going to happen. He's not in the 'elite circle' who mostly just play one another tourney after tourney.

In a world in which Mr Niemann wasn't suspected of cheating, how would we explain sometimes beating strong players but sometimes losing to weak players?

* experimental style of play

* when a football team beats strong teams but loses to weak ones, it's usually an indicator of a reasonably good team that works to the limit of exhaustion, but is highly motivated against strong opponents

* saving good tactics for the strong opponents

* day to day variability (good days and bad days: none of the rest of us have those, eh? :) )

It does happen that players (or teams) get surprisingly good results against strong opponents then unexpected losses against weak opponents: I think supporters would say that we see a team like this most seasons in the football leagues.

I guess this is Magnus' way of apologizing...or at least admitting he was wrong to imply what everyone knows he was implying? Or as close as we will ever get to it.

“I acknowledge and understand Chess.com’s report, including its statement that there is no determinative evidence that Niemann cheated in his game against me at the Sinquefield Cup. I am willing to play Niemann in future events, should we be paired together.” - Magnus Carlsen

Wow!

This is close to looking like an apology. :)

Game over.
