First results from your PGN, white+black makes not much sense since games are played with reversed colors. Splitting them into white and black is interesting. Furthermore I added the result percentage which can be used for sorting, result for the moment is based on all games, splitting result into white and black would be more interesting. More tomorrow, maybe even the download version.

Hi Ed,

it's interesting to see that the eval for the first 8 own calculated moves are for the stronger engines from move to move better.

This group of 41 engines produced an Elo white advantage fom: 58.34 +/- 2.60 with a balanced opening book. Eval average can be set in a ratio! To see is that different engines evals is clearly to high. Maybe it's looks more clear if you can produced the tables up to 12 moves (4 moves longer)? Interesting can be that users can give the tool the order ... produce a table with 8, 10, 12 or 14 moves and so one!!

By too high I mean for such things I do with FEOBOS opening book (10 engines build the opening book by eval in team-work). With engines produced a too high eval such optimations are difficult.

This tool is perfect for test-set optimations also. I hope I can start the tool if I have one black / white game only (engine tournament with only one position and two games).

In the past I made different experiments with complicated positions from Dutch or King's Indian openings and try to find out which engines produced the best results. In many cases it was not the strongest available engines. Eval-averages helps here a lot.

Ah, my first feeling was ... the eval-average looks for all engines to high. I will check that later with a database from 40 games by engines (games from round 1 of my still running tourney) and calculated the eval-average for this games by Excel. Very nice to have that tool later!! Different things are possible and all that without Excel (too complicated and need to many time).

2. Start "somu.exe".
3. Press [F2]
4. Select the pgn

5. Answer the question "Negate black scores" with "y" or "n"  
"y" means the engine scores are from the white point of view
"n" means the engine scores are from the engine point of view

6. Answer the question "Type white, black or both"
white - statistic is made when engines play the white pieces;
black - statistic is made when engines play the black pieces;
both  - all games will be evaluated, the statistic makes little sense when matches are played with reversed openings.

all works fine, can find no mistakes (I made samples with Excel).

For the moment I can optimate a little bit my opening book.
On weekend I added some new checked balanced lines in my *.bkt Shredder book.
So I can looking in engines evals ...
If the evals are too bad, lines will be deactivated and games replayed.

In round 7 I found one game, in round 8 so far one game after around 180 new games.

It must not be bad if engines have a too high eval.
Minic, Arasan, your engine for examples.

If Minic start with -1.50 for the first black-move ... it must not be a bad book move!
But if RubiChess start with -1.50 ... the variant is to 99% not balanced!

Thinking on iCE before NN-times.
Engine comes with very high-evals for the first own calculated opening moves! Very often engine was right!!

You and also Jon Dart are experts for openings in my opinion!
So if engines like Rebel or Arasan have such high evals ... I think the programmers are working with special optimations in NN-times. In the last years I used often Arasan for opening analyzes and the results are allways fine.

Also from Wasp (should be clear that I write this, but this is fact) ...

High evals come from NNUE training, you can lower them with the Evalcorrect option, but then you will lose some elo.

Hello Frank, I have a question regarding the score format found in the game.

How to interpet those evaluations.

I am trying to create a winning probability formula for each engine and need to get the evaluation of each move. Now we can interpret the opening move scores of the engines not by evaluation but by winning probability according to engine itself. I use fcp-tourney-2024.pgn (4920 games).
