Oh, I was wrong. There is an "I forgot my password" link right below the password field in the logon page.
I don't dare to try it myself, because when the change would require reactivation by an admin, we would be in deep sh*t. But I would expect the procedure to be fully automatic. (When people change their e-mail in their profile they do seem to require reactivation by the admin, however, so I cannot be entirely sure.)
Anyway, since I would typically do reactivation within a day, this whole issue appears to be a nonsense complaint.
All I can say is...if I have the same issue ever again, I will simply forget this forum ever existed because I will certainly not go thru the trouble of finding another email service (Yahoo...then gmail...now having to add AOL for one). Neither would I want to have a 2nd to one of those, ex:cornfed@yahoo, cornfed2 at yahoo, etc,etc when something like this happens. I think it reasonable to presume other 'average people with computer chess interest'...not programmers and such) have deserted the forum for a similar reason.
I sent multiple messages over the past few months to....wherever they went to. NONE ever resulted in anything happening. Of course, they were sent from here so I don't have anything to prove I did so.
At work (big healthcare provider) we have to reset out PW's ever so often...and sometimes one has caps on NumLk turned off or some such and you try too many times...and have to get a new PW. It's super simple.
So how did you send these messages? I am not accusing you of lying, your word is good enough for me. It is just that I did not receive anything, and we have to figure out why this is, so it can be corrected.
And what stopped you from using the 'I forgot my password' link when you forgot your password? This appears to be a fully automatic procedure, which would take only minutes to reset your password and specify a new one. Did you not get the mail with the activation link? Did it go to your spam box?
I sent them from an option in the screen where you try to enter your username/PW and get the CAPTUA where you equate material to equal a bishop and rook. That was were I used the 'forgot my PW'...no I never got an email with an activation link...looking at my 'spam folder' now...nothing from the site, looking about 2 months at the moment. I had tried using both the yahoo and gmail accounts at different times as I was not sure which the login was associated with.
IF (but only if...) it would be helpful, perhaps I can blunder input my password enough times that I get back in the same situation (need to probably delete it from my Kaspersky PW Mgr too...because now even the OLD ones work when I click on them to 'open in browswer' as it automatically goes to the site using my new CornfedForever username and the new PW...) and email you directly with screenshots of examples messages or test messages I would send telling about the trouble I was having.

The account Cornfed was associated with the gmail account. I have reset the password, and will send the new one to your current account by PM.
Right - Cornfed was associated with a gmail account...Leavenfish with a yahoo account...and now CornfedForever with an bran-spanking new aol account.
If you want or need me to I can send you the PM request. But honestly, I'm happy just to keep things as they are now. It really doesn't matter to me either way.
I read now and then that the pro computer chess programmers do not come in here anymore. They all have their own Discord channels going on etc. The main forum maybe was always meant to be ignored for programmers, too much political community stuff going on, too low tech level. And, obv. the pro programmers have outgrown of the tech level present in the programmers section. Nevertheless:
- perft_gpu by Ankan was announced and discussed on TC
- Giraffe was announced and discussed on TC
- AlphaGo and AlphaZero papers were posted and discussed
- Lc0 was anounced on TC
- SF NNUE by Nodchip took off via TC
It seems only natural that dev teams come up with their own channels for discussing their stuff, SF did it, Lc0 did it, OpenBench etc. My point is that for some folks this is the right place to be, it is their computer chess home, it might not be edgy for the top20, top80 chess engine programmers, but still of value for others, please respect it in that matter.

Maybe we can enrail the derailed thread again? And continue the topics about TC access in the according threads like "Task force TalkChess access" and the help section.

But all the programmers have been using TalkChess for many years.
....
Obviously the computer chess Zeitgeist moved on from usenet over bulletin boards to now Dicscord chat groups. I see it as pool where people share ideas, implementations, knowledge. It's not a bad thing Frank, every generation has its own kind of tech to communicate with, now it's Discord, rapid/instant/stream communication, or alike.
