Post by kepcuk »

I get new chess engine called TORCH and analyzed it. I found some interesting things. The code very similar with Stockfish and also use same net with Stockfish. And there isnt anything about it. Commercial or not. So I am sharing the source here.Link to source

As for what they've linked; that's public data you get sent when you use chess.com's analysis site. It's how they provide you Torch to run in your browser. So it includes some javascript code to wrap it, as well as a .wasm compile of Torch.
This has been the case, and known, since the first day Torch was available in the browser.

There are no plans at this time for a version other than the browser on chess.com. I hope someday that changes. We passed Stockfish 15 not so long ago. Things since then have gotten significantly harder, of course, and we are a relatively small team of people, not all working full time on it. But I hope that with some time, we can finish some more things we need, to let us explore areas that the SF team can't. And if that is fruitful, it would be a shame not to be sharing Torch with the world in a greater way than currently.

I wonder if you care with torch to be better than other engines in things that are not elo.

For example
1)Being stronger against humans or weak engines with knight odds
2)solving mates faster than other engines
3)Having some mode to calculate how many moves you need to force at least a draw(I know about mate solvers but not about at least draw solvers).

This is not a troll. I just shared it here so that someone who knows more about this topic can take a look. My intention was not to troll.

And when I did a little research, I saw that it was commercial, so I deleted the links from here even if they were accessible. Because when I obtained these files, there was no post about this engine on the internet (at least on chess.com).

Moderators never needed to remove the link.

He posted a link to the javascript that gets sent to your browser when you run Torch on an analysis page. In the same way as Lichess sends you a copy of Stockfish every time you load it. Except its not Stockfish persay, but its a javascript wrapper, plus a WASM compiled form of an engine. So if anyone bothers to understand that javascript wrapper stuff, feel free to write me a summary.
