size you need to win out of book in most games question

Post by Uri Blass »

I wonder how many positions you need to do it at least with white against different rating levels in lichess
In theory it should be possible with a book that is big enough but I have no idea what is the minimal size that you need against humans players at specific level(let say rating of 1500-1600 at blitz in lichess)

It will be nice to have a tool try to create a winning book.

Note that getting a winning position is not enough and you need also to win it but a book that white mate in most games is probably practically impossible except very weak levels when you can win by lines like 1.e4 Qh5 Bc4 and Qxf7#(impossible means that I guess the size is too big for computers to memorize the book).

Bojung Guo has created a book many gigabytes in size. I suspect it will play nearly perfectly for quite a distance. Since there is a public interface to the book, you can use it in a test. Despite this, I suspect you will mostly get draws against it with very strong engines on top hardware.
On the other hand, I guess that it will do as well or better than any other book.
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

Against strong engines it is practically impossible to get a winning position but the question is if it can get a winning position out of book in most games against humans at different levels(it is easier to do it against weak players and not against strong GM's).

It may be interesting to have a bot that use this book together with a weak engine to see the rating it gets and if it get a winning position out of book in most games.
