When using the Fritz GUI, you should set the tablebase path in the GUI, and that should override anything set in arasan.rc.
Thank you very much Andreas and Jon, I clearly envision that I will be able to solve my problem with these pieces of information ( I just don't have the time today).
Out of pure curiousity: what is the reason that you don't use the syzygy path that can be set for all engines and have this as a specific engine option for Arasan?

Not quite sure what you are asking. Maybe you are referring to the fact that Arasan uses SyzygyTbPath to set the path, while most other engines call the option SyzygyPath. I should probably fix that. However, note there is no official standard for this.
I try to make it as compatible as possible with GUIs but there are quite a few different ones and they have quirks. From prior discussion I think Shredder has something that affects hash setting in Arasan. I previously fixed some other issue specifically for Shredder.
Changes in Arasan 24.1:
(...)
7) SIMD optimizations in NNUE feature transformer (significant
performance increase, especially for Mac M1/M2 and AVX512).
8) Bug fixes in NNUE code.
Jon, indeed, I can see after the first few hundred games (MCERL) that the increase in strength of Arasan 24.1 neon is significant. On my mac M1 , at this point oscillates around +120 elo than previous version!
Hearty congratulations and thank you for this excellent Arasan
I do not understand how to install this on my Macbook Air with an M2 processor. I downloaded the M1+book package, but when I double click on that, it opens a Finder window with individual files in it. Nothing to drag to the Applications folder?! I'm used to just dragging an icon onto the Applications folder to install apps.
Can anyone offer advice/assistance? Also, this doesn't support UCI protocol? What GUI are people using for this then on the Mac?

That's what the LC0 and Stockfish developers will hopefully do soon.

It is a console application, so it does not have an installer. You'd just copy the files into a directory of your choice. To use it, you will need an interface program. Arasan supports both UCI and CECP (aka xboard) protocols.
