This engine will never become my analysis engine. In the following position, Stockfish 070324 needs 48s on 8 cores to find Qxf6+. This is the worst value of all Stockfishs in a year. Sad. Previous version only takes 2s.

Qxf6+!
[d]1B1r4/rp2npkp/2b1pbp1/1qp5/nPN1R3/1P1P1QP1/2P2PBP/5R1K w - - 0 1

Needed 48s.

It's unbelievable what Stockfish 070324 analyzes here:

Bxh7+!

Black is clearly winning.
-+ (-5.67)

1. Bxh7+ wins! Even after 3 minutes Stockfish doesn't see this. Even after 1. Bxh7+ Kxh7, Stockfish 070324 sees Black as having an advantage.

Stockfish finally found the key move after 87 minutes 51 seconds, one thread, 512 MB :)

Sun SE from a while back, I'm not quite sure if a learning file could have learned something here because I did try the original position without the c2 pawn before this, SUN SE found it too so it's possible it learned from that. But I don't see anything in the sources that points to a learning system at least nothing obvious so probably this one does not learn. Nothing in the options either that I can see

Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first
place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you
are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

Re: Stockfish 070324 a Disaster

Post by Eduard »

The Stockfish developers are crazy about Elos. Statistically speaking, such positions are nothing. The greed for new Elos led the developers to train a new small network. That gives you +5 Elo in the bullet. These people are not asking whether Stockfish is still useful for analysis. The main thing is, there are new Bullet Elos! This is the new reality of Stockfish. If you are looking for a good engine for analysis, you should probably take Komodo Dragon now or wait for Torch and hope that Torch becomes available to everyone soon. I don't expect anything more from Stockfish developers for my analyses. Luckily, I learned how to change certain parameters in Stockfish for better analysis.

Here is an analysis of the two positions using the same nets and search codes as Stockfish 070324, but with my changes in Leptir 070324.

[d]1B1r4/rp2npkp/2b1pbp1/1qp5/nPN1R3/1P1P1QP1/2P2PBP/5R1K w - - 0 1

Analysis by Leptir PB 070324-avx2:

1.Qxf6+ Kxf6 2.Be5+ Kg5 3.Bg7 Bxe4 4.f4+ Kh5 5.Bxe4 g5 6.Ne5 Qc6 7.Bf6 g4 8.h3 Qxe4+ 9.dxe4 gxh3 10.Bxe7 Nc3 11.g4+ Kh6 12.Nxf7+ Kg7 13.Nxd8 Ra2 14.Bh4 Rxc2 15.f5 exf5 16.exf5 Re2 17.Ne6+ Kf7 18.Ng5+ Kf8 19.Nxh3 cxb4
+- (5.05 ++) Tiefe: 27/53 00:00:08 81989kN, tb=829

[d]1r3rk1/3bbppp/1qn2P2/p2pP1P1/3P4/2PB1N2/6K1/qNBQ1R2 w - - 0 1

Analysis by Leptir PB 070324-avx2:

1.Bxh7+ Kh8 2.Rh1 Qab2+ 3.Bxb2 gxf6 4.gxf6 Qxb2+ 5.Nfd2
+- (3.94 ++) Tiefe: 24/40 00:00:05 63980kN, tb=1983

Fast and powerful. In Bullet maybe 10 Elo weaker. Btw, no multi pv mode or Random Op. MultiPV. Normal mode!

I did a bullet match that night. After 82 games it is a draw. It was played with Ponder ON and 8 Threads/Engine. Hardly anyone has fewer than 4 cores! Hash 256MB/Engine. My own variants with color swaps. GUI Fritz 19.

All variants in CBH and PGN:
https://pixeldrain.com/u/oZvtuwtB

Ryzen 3900X, Bullet 2.0min+1.0sec 2024

1 Stockfish 070324-avx2 +6/=70/-6 50.00% 41.0/82
2 Leptir PB 070324-avx2 +6/=70/-6 50.00% 41.0/82

Games:
https://pixeldrain.com/u/jEtup1GA

At 2min + 1s Leptir already has the same playing strength. But Leptir is made for analysis. Why should I use the new Stockfish for analysis, where I don't know whether a sacrifice is correct or loses? :roll:

Why does the new Stockfish 070324 analyze so poorly. A new formula was developed for simple eval. Among other things, this was changed:

Author: mstembera
Date: Sun Mar 3 15:29:58 2024 +0100
Timestamp: 1709476198

Only evaluate the PSQT part of the small net for large evals.

---

bool smallNet = std::abs(simpleEval) > 1050;
bool psqtOnly = std::abs(simpleEval) > 2500;

int nnueComplexity;

---

Total: 165162 W: 41918 L: 41330 D: 81914 Elo +1.24 :!:

Because of the nonsensical +1.24 bullet (60s + 0.6s) selfplay elo, the engine now sometimes analyzes crap.

But I don't see anything in the sources that points to a learning system at least nothing obvious so probably this one does not learn. Nothing in the options either that I can see
Hello Eelco,

Sun SE does not have learning built in (no experience.cpp or experience.h). Sun 1.0 and 1.1 did, however.

If I recall correctly, I think Sun SE had a slower search compared to its predecessors.

Not only were a few parameters changed in evaluate.cpp, but hundreds of new codes were implemented and 161,000 games were played. And the developers celebrate +1 Elo in Bullet and they praise each other for such ideas and achievements. Critics like me, on the other hand, are ridiculed because they have a logical answer for everything. I have never experienced a positive response to my criticism on Discord. But I have already been insulted. These developers are very arrogant in my opinion. One network developer even calls himself “SFisGod.”
