Old school engine request - Mint

Post by tmokonen »

I have been looking for years for versions of the chess engine Mint other than the latest 2.3 version, without success. Anyone have older versions of this golden oldie in their collection?

That's a Stockfish derivative. I am talking about the 20+ year old Winboard engine by Christian Söderström.

Ah, OK, I should have known it couldn't have been that easy.

I did this search some time ago but without luck. On Wayback are the old home pages with download links for a 1.6 and 1.74 but they didn't work. I also have only the 2.3 on my backup disks back to 2001, sorry. We can only hope that anyone have it on an old disk.

Is this e-mail address no longer valid?

chrso085@student.liu.se

Maybe you could find him on FB or LinkedIn.

I don't think his university email from those many years ago would be valid, and he seemed to be pretty disillusioned when he left the hobby. I really don't want to bother him. I figured I would ask here first, in case any of the old timers had a copy.

Today I made a last try and exhume my old Athlon1400 and the PII350 PC's. First thing to do was activating the hoover :) They were standing for a long time in the glory hole. To my surprise both started without any problem. The bad news I didn't find any usefull chess things on them that I didn't have on my backup disks :( Sorry

That's OK. I know it's a long shot. Thank you for making the effort.

Well well, ask and ye shall receive. I got an unexpected email from a gentleman who has shared old engines with me in the past. Thank you Yannik for sending me Mint 1.61 and 1.74.
