CCC Candidates 2024 Playouts

Post by AndrewGrant »

https://www.chess.com/computer-chess-championship

We are running the Candidates 2024 Playout Event series at CCC, in which we've derived 50 openings from the 40 Candidates games, and 40 Women's Candidate games. The openings are from the first position in which the evaluations exceed +- 0.80. There will uncertainly be many positions that are busted, as human blunders are large at times.

Hopefully this provides in interesting look into how engines might have played the games out; whether that is seeing if they play the same winning lines as the players, or if they are able to convert/defend when the players could not.

Blog post is here ( https://www.chess.com/blog/AndrewGrantE ... 4-playouts ) and provides a reference table, to get back to the original game. I hope our OTB fans will enjoy the event, even if its not a great measure of head-to-head engine strength.

Great idea. You should contact Levy Rozman (aka Gothamchess), to make some great engine-videos on youtube about this event. Fits perfect to his Candidates 2024-videos. I will try the same with TheBigGreek, out german chess-youtuber #1.

Honestly, I don't think he would consider it worth his time. I don't think his viewers would particularly care.

Levy regularly makes videos about the CCC games
And he does it in a really entertaining and instructive way. My favorite ccc-games Levy-video is his second video with some wins by Torch:

Human chess: In game 14 Caruana (Elo 2803) missed some 5 winning moves. Of course that makes games more interesting :) . In move 64.

If you understand german and are interested, here a nice video by TheBigGreek about the game Vidit - Firouzja. Played by Torch (white) vs. Stockfish (black) after the move Bb7 of Firouzja. Very interesting IMHO. In the next days, some more videos will follow with enginegames out of the candidates-openings.

This one was released, when Torch was announced, so it is a little bit older, but especially the first 2 games are just mindblowing...
