HGM, the dragon slayer.

Post by Christopher Martin »

Amidst noise and ignoble proclamations, a fiery figure stands out for his fertile ideation. It is HGM, the encyclopedic mecca to which all apprentices of the trade make a pilgrimage to show respect and moisten their lips with the cream of boreal intellection.

Therefore, I would like to dedicate a few words to the one who has been and is my best teacher, the tutor of all the concerns that dwell in the development of chess software. White candles surround the altar that bears the image of his genius.

HGM, the initials that precede I am, but I do not think, the Cartesian maxim that has incubated the letters of his collection.

Serendipity. A liberal term that brings us closer to eureka, the warning of solutions without the need to have looked for them. The fortuitous ignition of skillful and safe keys.

Ultimate. The will to go all the way. The action of walking towards the horizon until we reach it, and pierce its silhouette with the sharp claws of curiosity, the engine of minds.

Celebrated. Our scientist friend was at the gates of the Nobel Prize, but gave up the title to focus on his research on chess programs. Why did he do it? Because one fine day he got naked. He took off his lab coat to frolic in the mud like a piglet.

Kilos. They say that experience is the pressure and temperature, the natural breath that transmutes immature carbon geometries into diamond. It is the backpack of the wise. Kilos and kilos of experience that bind you to the ancient rock.

Mystery. No one knows for sure what the future holds. What we can know is that the future of computer chess will be paved with the exquisite blocks of discernment that HGM offers us.

You. Yes, you. Supporting the pillars of the Earth has been the work of H, but building on its foundations is a general task. It is our duty to carry on its legacy, and comb the silver from its hairs.

Adamant. Success is the firstborn of strong wills. Talent is of no use if it does not come out of its shell. A concentrated and unassailable character has the impetus to lead his genius from power to act.

Sapience. So many years of evolution have forged a new kind of man. Men like HGM represent the absolute pinnacle of human evolution, something like the perfect soldier, but flawed and confused.

Sentiment. We have reached the end of the diaporama. It is the hot and passionate sentiment that floods the arteries of humanity, tenderness and commiseration. Thank you, master, for showing us the way, the way never to be followed.
