I authored some code in there and I can tell you right now, you are free to do whatever is allowed under GPL, but I sure did not gave any explicit permission nor endorsement to this nobody.

But I will be thrilled to watch WCCC title a weak edited compile of someone else's code while the same group of people launched a crusade against Rybka for using some "mere library code" as per HGM's standards.

I don't think it is worth to argue though, they didn't have a good judgement back then, therefore I wouldn't expect them to have it now.

The post is a slander: ShashChess is a derivative not a clone of Stockfish, as evidenced by its code and several articles explaining the various underlying ideas that make it different from the original.
I ask the moderators to intervene.

------

I am sorry friend but you have to answer some questions first.

1. Did you inform the ICGA that ShashChess is a derivative on the entry form?

2. Did you get permission from SF team?
Clearly, the answer is yes for both. I have the mails confirming it.

Clearly answer is no for 2nd.
[Moderation] Please refrain from libellous remarks.
And as usual it shares 99% of code with sf, 99,99% if we include NN, and other 1/0,01% is atrociously written piece of garbage that makes sf weaker by 10-20 elo. Meanwhile ofc every version merges every sf change up to date - so there is no "copy this state and develop from there", there is only "always copy latest sf and add the same bad garbage on top of it".
If this is not a clone than nothing is a clone, ofc.

As usual for amchess he is lying and deceiving on purpose.

I suspect that you should check with Vondele.

crem posted the following in Leela discord:
I asked the WCCC organizers whether they are aware that ShashChess is a SF clone, here is their answer:
Thank you for pointing out the issues with Shashchess. Their case generated two months of discussion between
  • . We had input from the Stockfish team, who were apathetic to Shashchess's entry. We also had to verify that Shashchess represents a significant difference from Stockfish.

This was a difficult case to consider. In the end, I decided that the WCCCs would be a better competition with a Stockfish variant than without (especially given the special nature of this particular year's competition).

Sorry, can't moderate posts.
90% of coding is debugging, the other 10% is writing bugs.

That's completely identical. If SF doesn't want to enter, then surely a 100% SF clone can't be allowed to enter. ICGA make up the rules to suit themselves as they go along though, as ani fule kno.

In the same post, there is the vondele response. Now I'm not surprised you would double standard given your history of refusing to process the Houdini matter properly.

I'm just posting what I find.
I am not part of any engine team.
